Ok i just got a EQD Hoof and love it. I get cool big muffy sounds and if i tune the guitar down to D i get even fatter tones. I also have a DBA Fuzz War witch basicly does the same thing but with less knobs. But after playing two hours and tweaking knobs back and forth a 1000 times i realise i want a more fuzzy Fuzz. Now i have spent all day checking out videos and sound samples and i am pretty sure i want a Tonebender styled fuzz sound rather than a muffy sound.
What would you guys recommend? What am i looking for??

I play stuff like Crustpunk (not the depressed kind with boring riffs, more like the fast fucking D-beat stuff) Motörhead´ish R´n´R and some 70´s rock/Space rock jammin.

Have you checked out the FH Algal Bloom? I use that in tandem with a Pharaoh (muff-style fuzz) and get the best of both fuzz worlds, imo. If you're not concerned about budget, the DBA Super Sonic Fuzz Gun is pretty cool also, sold mine though after acquiring my current fuzz pedals.

Blackout effectors Musket seems like an awfully varied muffin tones-wise.

...and if it's Muff You like - the Dwarfcraft devices Eau Claire Thunder delivers the tone blast, on/off. The rest of the Dwarfcraft fuzzes wil melt Your face with SICK glitcy sounds and low end enough to boost a 5-string bass.

Then there's the awesome fuzzes Aen licenced from Devi: they all are EVIL motherfuckers, some come with fucking joysticks I love these ALOT myself. Check out SPAE, learn to love it, and everybody not worth Your love starts hating You.

But if You want it naturally breathing, nasty grainy with balls it's the Arc Flash OR if You'd like über amount of gainy, cascading fuzz with massive low end (like a lot more than asked for even for a metal head) it's AB-Synth or the Great Wall from Fuzzhugger (fx) You want. Add footswitchable oscillations - Tom has readily offered option for that, too. And his custom work is absolutely gorgeous. Ask him to build You a custom and You've got it all. And just awful GAS for more, believe me.

Or if it's mid rangy-snarly fuzz You think about, go for the Mellowtone Wolfcomputer. It's a hairy killer.

...that's my five cents. I'd love to try out some Smallsound/Bigsound and McSpunckle built dirt pedals. They seem to me something I think really hits the nail in the head for me. :wave:

My advice is to buy twelve fuzzes for a ten songs live set and learn to live with the fact that there will NEVER be enough dirt on Your pedal board no matter how big it was and the bigger than life just inspire to try to house MORE!

BTW Hacken, welcome aboard, drop an introduction to the introduction thread in the general discussion, it's interesting to know from what kind of background everybody loves fuzz.

I always second the Algal Bloom, but for a "Tonebender" kind of sound, you could stick with EQD and try a Dirt Transmitter. Really chunky and velcro-y, but you can dial out the velcro/gate with the bias knob, then get some hairier shit with the tone knob.

Oh yeah, and also, isn't the EQD Tone Reaper inspired by the one and only three nob mkII Tonebender? Am I right? Yes? Might be what You are looking for?

Tone Reaper's a MkIII Tone Bender, which is different from the MkII. I'd try a MkI Tone Bender -- talk to Ian Sherwen/Ghost about that.

Depends which Tone Bender you want -- the Jumbo is essentially a muff anyway.
MKI is spitty, but compressed and trebly. It's essentially a FZ-1 on steroids. Listen to Over Under Sideways Down by the Yardbirds and you'll get the idea.
MKII is thicker and raspier, sweet upper-mid focused.
MKIII is thicker than either of those and still very middy.
Vox 2-trannie is thinner and raspier, very trebly (listen to the Stooges or the Doors)
Mk1.5 is a Fuzz Face +

All that said, Super-Fuzz might be kinda cool for what you're doing.

easily one of the most outrightly useable guitar sounds that have a nice border on being distinct without being too overbearing.

oh yeah. once you get stuck in the algal bloom. you kinda never get out

has anybody checked out the Mi Audio: GI Fuzz? it seems to have endless tone options, like way too many knobs! Is it any good?

I'm also looking for a fuzz (Muffy or Balsy or Heavy).

The Barber Trifecta sounds pretty awesome too, it allows you to switch between a Muff and 2 different Benders. If you buy it used try and get V2.

And yeah, superfuzz can be pretty awesome for the more aggressive guitar bashing.

Super Fuzz should be just perfect for Crust.
