"And even more excitingly, the band is working on a phone-based reissue of Zaireeka, the 1997 album that many fans have still never properly heard. Zaireeka was originally released on four CDs, intended to be played simultaneously on four different CD players. (Pitchfork's own Mark Richardson wrote a book about the record.) For the reissue, the album will play simultaneously on four different cell phones. Coyne tells Spin that the phone version of Zaireeka will be out in the next 10 days.

Below, Coyne and bandmate Steven Drozd demonstrate how the reissue will work, proving in the process that it could be even more difficult to cue the record up on cell phones as it was to get all four CD players playing at the same time"

When I lived in Cali I found a copy of the album that had the four discs mastered into one :excellent:

PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I have the legit four-disc edition, though I haven't played it yet. :(

Was the one you found an official release?

Ive heard that they're redoing in 5.1 or something, but better.

I suppose it's pretty self indulgent, ha. I'm pretty down though, I'm pretty sure the record company only put it out because they sadi they would make Zaireeka and the Soft Bulletin on the same budget.

I'm not sure it counts as egotistical when it's unlikely anyone will ever listen to it. Maybe self-indulgent, but what good art isn't? :idk: Populism in art spawns Taylor Swifts and Justin Biebers.

I do love the story how they made a bunch of different tapes and gave them to people in their cars in a parking garage. They all started them at the same time blasting their stereos with the windows open. I imagine you could literally walk through a veritable soundscape. Wayne Coyne is the Greek god of awesome and Steven Drozd is a freaking genius. Good think he kicked the smack habit; he might not be around today.

My favorite era was the Ronald Jones era but apart from that I think they still put good stuff out
I think that the the mark of a true fan is that they don't love everything a band does but still invest time
listening to them.
