This is one sexy beast. Who needs a tempermental, booze and drug addled, unreliable drummer when you can have one of these!

Why did he keep saying "me (Rodger) and Dave"? Not just grammatically incorrect, but unnecessary.

Looks amazing but I can't justify spending 2K on a drum machine. I'd rather just drop a bunch of $$ on pedals or another amp and stick with a real drummer. If you have the funds though, I'm sure this would be a treat to own.

Dudes, this thing is a hell of a lot more than a drum machine. Geez, I just watched the vid... 2k doesn't seem so bad, when you consider that a low end MPC will run you close to a grand anyway and can't do half the things this does.

I'm friggin impressed.

machinedrum needs a computer to function, right? it's not a standalone device, or am I misinformed?

Yeah, seeing the man himself use it was quite impressive. This thing is amazing and worth that price tag...even though I'll never be able to purchase it :*(

oh no doubt on the amazingness of the tempest or dave smith. i own a mono evolver and it is beyond :!!!: ....theres no sampling capability on this tempest tho is there? or maybe i am misinformed. that kinda deflated my gas (may not matter to some) and unfortunately i'm not made of money.

i think i also overlooked that u can make a helluva lot more than just drum sounds w/ the tempest as u can the MD...probably some really cool shit to be had in there...my initial reaction was 2 grand for an analog drum machine? a little steep considering theres a lot of other cool gear out there and u can get some sweet old school analog drum stuff like simmons or drumfire for like 3/4's the price and sequence it w/ something else.

naw u are mistaken my friend, the machinedrum has its own badass internal sequencer as well as separate midi sequencers, much like an electribe on steriods. and the sounds u can make by tweakin the knobs are really amazing and can get pretty wild, u can make basslines, synth seqs , glitchy noises, sample acoustic sounds pretty easily w/ it.

my understanding is that, maybe not in v1 of the software but in a future update, that you will be able to load your own waves / waveforms into the tempest - a'la the machinedrum uw.

i think i also overlooked that u can make a helluva lot more than just drum sounds w/ the tempest as u can the MD...probably some really cool shit to be had in there...

the tempest has 6 analogue voices, each of which is - basically - a mopho sound engine, albeit with tweaks - envelopes, the hpf, etc - that are more 'percussion oriented'. but i think in the linn / smith video they basically say 'you can do synth sounds with it too'

my initial reaction was 2 grand for an analog drum machine? a little steep considering theres a lot of other cool gear out there and u can get some sweet old school analog drum stuff like simmons or drumfire for like 3/4's the price and sequence it w/ something else.

yeah 2 large is a lot, but the md-uw is like $1750 and, while it is a different beast, the price is not completely out of line.

needless to say, the more cooler drum machines come out, the more my old hr-16b and tr-606 start to look like maybe they need a companion... :excellent:

yea, I retract my price complaint, this thing is capable of far more than I realized.

It's got a six voice analog synth onboard. Why has no one else yet speculated on the possibility of hooking the thing up to a guitar?

I am glad there are still analog drum machines being made, I guess this is aimed towards the professional dance/house/rave/hiphop-producer, looking at the price and all the options.. Also I guess it is for people who think it is awesome, like me when I would've won the lottery or something like that
