So my brother just came back from vacation with a cb radio hand mic that he got for a buck. Its got a weird plug on it so I wanna change it into a quarter inch. It has three wires a red a white and a black. Any tips on wiring this correctly to a new plug.

take it apart and post pics. its either passive or active. if its passive, you just pick the correct two wires that are attached to the capsule or diaphragm and wire it to a jack. if its active, you have to know the voltage or voltage range and you apply a dc power source. the third wire would be the signal. black is ground always in either example. I would just try it as passive and keep adding gain until you are sure that its not picking up anything at all. then try it with 9v battery and a 1meg pot so you can increase supply voltage in small increments while also trying different amounts of gain, like in the first example.
edit: also, you can blow the element if too much dc is applied on the wrong wires.
