***EDUT: OOPS why didn't I post this in the Music forum? I'll see if I can get it moved. -C

Perhaps these records haven't been hidden from you, but they are some of my favourites that I NEVER hear anyone else talking about. I highly highly highly highly highly recommend.

"Fantastic Planet" by Failure is probably my second favourite album of all time behind the Beatles "White" Album. I discovered it in 1996, and it ended my long search for a band that I could love more than (or about as much as) Nirvana. It's a 17 track space rock EPIC... before space rock. I mean like mid-90s post-grunge space rock. Greg Edwards went on to form Autolux, and Ken Andrews does a whole lot of shit... On, Year Of The Rabbit, 'n stuff. Favourites include "Blank", "The Nurse Who Loved Me", "Saturday Saviour", and "Stuck On You". There is a video for the latter choice:

"Maquee" by Smile is THE fuzzpop record of the 90s. Smile was an incredible power trio, and had an entirely unique fuzz sound. The production on this record is one of my favourites (not sure if I phrased that right)... the drums sound sooooooo good, and the one-of-a-kind fuzz sound was created by blowing out like a Fender Bullet or something and then running a Strat through that with the tone knob all the way down at zero on the bridge pickup. The fuzz bass is also so so fine. Favourites: "Rock Anthem For The Retarded Teenage Hipster Population", "Spud Gun", "Jack Shrimp". I have it on blue transparent vinyl!

Couldn't find any stuff from "Maquee", but here's "Settledown", at least, although it's way after their heavy fuzz period.

My hands are cold.

Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too by The New Radicals is an awesome album. Gregg Alexander is a fucking genius.

Great songwriting, stellar production, and a general "I don't give a fuck" attitude. Listen to this album if you haven't already.

+1 for that Failure record. It really is fantastic. If I remember correctly, Rolling Stone gave it 5 stars (or 4, whatever their highest is) when it came out.

This is probably my favorite record from the '90s.

10 amazing songs and zero filler. Not a second of this album is wasted. Turned out to be their final offering. The singer and bass player died in a bus accident a month before the album was released.

"Mighty K.C." was the song that got me into this band. It's great, but I strongly recommend the entire album. Every one of their songs could have been the best song on some other album.

Late 90's at least. I was too busy swept up in the Ska/Punk revival thanks to Less Than Jake.

Sweetwater's "Super Friends" album is fucking awesome. I randomly bought it in a used CD bin one day in 1995 and it blew my mind.

The lyrics are priceless, and the guitar riffs kick a truckload of ass.
