What's it Worth: Epi Valve Jr.

I could post this on talkbass and get flamed but you guys are way more helpful and accepting.
Someone has an Epiphone Valve Jr listed for $300 head and cab on the local CL. I'm probably going to need to do a bass mod to it and replace the speaker in the cab with a speaker better voiced for bass (or just use a different cab all together,...Avatar 1x12?). Either way I'm looking for a quietish tube amp for home use and to get my feet wet,...but at 3 bills I might as well just buy an Ampeg V4.
$300 bucks seems steep for one of these.
Thoughts?

Yeah, steep for sure.
They go over here in Cleveland for 150-200 all the time.

Too steep in my opinion, especially if you're going to mod it.

Ah,...I'm starting to see that I can get head by itself for less than 2 bills.

Thanks.
I checked out the GA5H and was only able to find it overseas. Between the the cost of shipping and the price of the amp itself,...I can get the Epi here for about the same price (115 eur = ~150 usd)
I continue to research it and see if there is US distribution for it.

Somebody is paying attention.
Unfortunately with my recent procedure I don't think I'll be getting any ball beating fellatio anytime soon.

Snip, snip.

haha.
Yeah, that's pretty high. I think we bought our head on CL for $50. I enjoy playing it. I would like to do some mods to it though. Maybe get one of those turret boards with Vox voiced circuit. But it's a nice little amp to fool around with for the price.

That's just the way it goes around these parts. Scammers and Rubes. With that admission there is now in hell I'd pay that much for the combo. I've got a friend that works at a consignment/clearance shop for one of the local stores. I might be able to get a NOS one for a good deal, or perhaps make a trade.

I was thinking to myself yesterday that no one uses that smiley nearly enough as they should. Good usage, sir.

Will 5W be enough headroom for you? I know you said quietish, but quietish is a different amount to everyone.

Just looking for apartment with paper thin walls quietish. Something to use for home recording and practice. Not that my crappy little SS bass amp isn't cutting it,...it's just,...urm,....solid state (Ashdown Perfect 10 glorified practice amp).

There's a guy in my area who has been trying to sell his VJ and an empty 1x12 cabinet for $250. The ad says he'll throw in a Weber or Celestion speaker for another $50-80. The cab is decent, but I've found that VJ's are basically worthless. I bet he'd have sold it by now if he got real and advertised a loaded 1x12 for $200 with a free Valve Junior head haha.
