Sovtek Vs. Red*Bear

I don't know if you guys have heard of the company Red Bear but they have some pretty good reviews on their amps. They are also from Russia and seems to be a sleeper amp like Sovtek. A guy on CL is offering a trade his RedBear MK60 for my Sovtek Mig 60. What are your guy's opinions on this. Have any of you had any experience with RedBear? Thanks

I actually have... i played the MK60 i think... two inputs...
low input = clean to mild crunch... high input = kinda... marshall-esque kind of drive
pretty good sound, not too muffled, not too bright, very usable even with everything on 12 o'clock, nice, clear sound. i think it'll take effects very well. I think they're going around for pretty low prices (the one i played was crazy cheap for the quality of sound)

Dude, why you wanna pawn off that Sovtek so bad?
Compared to a MIG 60, this Red Bear is going to be potAYtoes-potAHtoes, tonewise.

I never said that I wanted to pawn it off. The last thread about a Sovtek was because I had a chance to get a Mig 100 but then the deal fell through I never was going to pawn off the Mig 60. This is the first time I have actually considered trading it. I just have heard some great things about Red Bear, especially since I heard Hum used I think a MK120 to record on some of there early records. I was just wondering if this was going to be a step up. I always like to see what's out there for me to try.

Unfortunately, the Mig 100 is out of the question. So its between the Mig 60 and MK60...

a russian muff played through a red*bear would probably resurect rasputin
OP, hold out for the 120 watter. those are the most bass heavy sons of bitches ever. i really want to get one then try it out for bass.

Alot of people say this but it is not true. They use 6l6 tubes and sound less midrangey than an 800. The are on the bassier side and sound closer to the American sound. They have the same gain structure and eq section maybe but thats about it. I own a Mig 100 and have owned a Redbear 60. I am also pretty sure they were designed and made by the same fella.

I would say that they are about the same. The 120 has more growl to it. Really throaty. They are both not overly bass heavy but you can def tell a difference between an 800. There are some amps where the bass takes over....this is not one of them but they are def bass heavy. The 60 takes pedals well. The 120 I never tried with anything other than a TS9 clone. Sounded badass. Hahahaha. I like the Sovteks for build quality and looks better though. Sovteks are built like tanks....tanks I tell you!

Haha well I don't think I would need a 120 watter, there was one on my local CL as well a couple weeks ago but I decided that if I ever got it then I would mod it to 60 watts anyway since 120 is ridiculous

but I would be using this mainly for the distortion since I recently acquired a Twin Reverb for cleans and what I will run pedals through and will most likely A/B it with the Twin. Although I have heard they take pedals very well. My mig 60 does a great job at the moment.
