my current rig isn't loud enough.
running two 120watt orange heads into an orange 4X12 cab each.
if i get one 200watt head, am I gonna be louder than now?
(I'm starting to feel like a child stomping my feet complaining "I wanna be the louderest ")

so:
Louder
Same
Quieter
:poke:

totally unqualified to answer this. though i think number of speakers would make a big difference. 8 with your current set up vs. i assume 4? seems like the current would be louder.
but also:

are you playing shows in a wind tunnel?

Not enough power for those arena shows?

Seriously, maybe invest in some cabs instead? Run your heads as full-stacks, that should get you where you want to be. One 200 watt amp isn't going to be any louder than your dual-head setup currently. A good compression pedal might help as well.

Jesus christ!

If two 100 watt amps arent loud enough, there's something wrong with your cabs.
I can drown out a whole band with an 85 watt Twin.

Dude.
How fucking loud is your drummer?

Also, I don't think that the 200 watt head will be louder than the 2 100s.
I'm not an expert or anything, but I don't think it will be louder.

wattage is such a misconception
a 200w amp is technically twice as loud as a 20 watt amp

I'll keep the same amount of cabs.

dual full stacks?
I don't think i've got the room at the practice space for a second stack. I've got to fight against the red marshall stack one on the left. I dwarf the SVT 8X10 stack, but the bassist is really loud too and keeps up with the marshalls. Orange, you're letting me down

strategy 500?

maybe take them 120s into the shop. that doesn't seem right at all. Maybe your transformers are gefuckten? Are they vintage? were they made for 120v AC? I don't know if a conversion is even possible, but I know Britpower is like 240v or so. random thought.

another random thought. If the two amps are running out of phase with each other, that'll dampen your sound CONSIDERABLY.
again, i am totally unqualified and going from what i've heard elsewhere on the interwebz.

they're 90's OTR, serviced and in good shape
I've AB'ed them against a 100watt Hiwatt DR 103, and were comparable in volume.
they're bloody loud. too loud for any other band i've ever been in (tahat forced me to play through a 2X12 and still complained i was too loud)
i'm just not the loudest with this new band. :?:

This. I'd have to agree with the others too, about the 2 you having being louder than one with slightly more juice. At that point, I think you'd only be increasing headroom if anything.

Marshalls appear loud because they have a lot of mids. Try cutting some of the bass, and treble on your Orange to give more mids, maybe more than you think you need to? What speakers are you running compared to theirs? are you running the 120 watt orange cabs, or the 240 watt?

Yeah somethings wrong other than a lack of wattage dude.

Are you over-scooping your mids? You'll disappear behind the bass and high hats. If your current setup isnt loud enough you're gonna need to EQ yourself, you ain't getting "louder".

Honestly, you won't want too, I don't know where you're playing but you'll just end up having to turn down at most venues.

Fuzzfarmer stole my idea.

Also, maybe your bassist is just being too loud and swallowing up the mix, shut him up or make him EQ himself better.

Not if they're playing gigs in outerspace. :picard:
