y'all know Iron Ether right?

i'm such a fan boy of Taylor Livingston's pedals that i might actually punch somebody in the throat if they disparaged them in front of me. and since this site is all about the effects, and especially the fuzz, i'm sure y'all know about Iron Ether's stuff.

these are the two of his i've spent a lot of time with recently.....
Image
.... the Xerograph (low pass filter) and Oxide (fuzz of DOOM).

and i've found some tones that i'm just..... happy with. he really does an interesting take on established effects.

..... http://soundcloud.com/nosebleed-academy ... edal-clips ....... are some clips of me messing around, being sloppy, not showcasing them NEAR as well as a better player would. but they hint at the possibilities inside his boxes. most clips are first with a silly drum loop, then the same clip iso'd just bass.

sorry to gush, but seriously haven't been as impressed with an entire line that somebody puts out. a lot of time it's hit and miss model to model. not with Taylor's stuff.

woof.

My Xerograph took a dump on me but Taylor is going to fix it up nice and respectable like once I send it back to him. I think it just has a bum output jack, alas!

It was awesome up until that point. And it will mostly certainly be awesome again. Hooray. :joy:

urrrrrrm. you could.... swing by my spot. i'm over in Cali. let you play with them as much as you like.

ew. that came out a bit dirtier than it was in my head-meats. my bad.

NOW WHERE IS THAT BUNNY AVATAR???!? JACKALOPE!!!!!

BIG NAD!!!

lol. y'know, i had a similar thing with my Oxide. it worked for a second, then dumped out. it ended up being a bad solder point. which is weird, because looking at the board the work is as beautiful inside as it is on the enclosures. but he offered to pay the shipping back and fixed it lickety'split. i'm not bothered with funky stuff with smaller builders. it's kind of expected once in awhile since usually the ARE the whole company.

as long as they're cool about taking care of it if something crops up, and he couldn't of handled it better.

The Cygnet is high on my list of 'which tremolo to get' amazingly affordable for the amount of features it has.

My thoughts exactly. Both of your pedals look amazing though Behndy. How does the Utron compare?

it's pure delicious. if you get one, for sure pay for the expression pedal option. it gives an amazing amount of control and lets you do almost iDM like stutters.

are you talking about the Guv'nor Ultron? i've never used that, so i can't compare it. that's an auto-wah right? if you're asking how the Xerograph compares then i can't talk about with Xero vs Ultron, but i've used or have the MXR BEF, EHX filters, 3 Leaf Groove Regulator, the new 3 Leaf Proton..... i'm NOT a filter expert and there are a lot of people that have way more experience, 'specially with the Big Classic ones.

but IME, where the Xero shines is that it's the most versatile filter i've ever used. evey other one is VERY good at nailing one or two sounds, but the Xero just is a knob tweaker's delight. it's crazy how much of a range it has. and it pairs with the Oxide better than any filter with a fuzz i've ever used.

hope that helps.

you have all the options on the Xerograph right? Would you suggest all of them or are there any that are sort of unnecessary?
Also on Iron Ethers page I read talk of self ossolations with the Xerograph. Is this true? how does it sound?

i did go for every option he offered. i've found that i don't like downsweeps that much, so i'd probably forgo the uo down selector, since i always leave it up, and i don't know how much i'm gonna use the exp pedal input. it's very neat, and if i had fewer things on my board and enough room for a full time exp pedal maybe. but everything else is super delicious and really adds to it's versatility.

the self oscilation kicks in if you go all the way counter clockwise with the resonance knob. it's pretty cool. if you want i can record some clips of that tonight when i get home from work. i haven't used it a lot, i'm using more just for bass right now, but it seems like it'd be fun to run into other stuff. and the character of the oscillation changes if you wobble the other knobs.

dai-yeah-i.

it's a neat pedal because it IS a boutique pedal, but it goes from tame to nasty. there's a Starve switch that makes it be more of a Behind Your Tone fuzz that i didn't play with in those clips.

glad you liked them!
