just got my ECT a week or so ago from Moog audio, love it to death but i can't get any decent tones out of it without also getting a ridiculous amount of background noise when i stop playing . ive tried it through all kinds of guitars and basses, and amps as well. is this normal? any suggestions as to how i can curb this issue?

Mines pretty quiet, there's a bit of hum but overall not too much
At the volumEs I like to play at it does feedback, but at that point most things do lol

may I ask if you got it from the store in Toronto? the one I played there didn't work at all.

Your pedal is probably A-OK. There are a variety of things that can contribute to more noise in an ECT.
-Daisy chaining
-Shitty wiring in the house/practice space/club
-noisy instrument
I would try nudging the trim knob and see if you can get any of that hiss out, otherwise, try different power strategies. If you have a high demand pedal on your daisy chain, like a fancy delay, that can eat up a lot of your available power and lead to extra noise.
BUt the bottom line is, the ECT is really high gain, so there is going to be plenty of white noise when you're not playing.
