I was doing a dub/reggae thing with this chick from Bermuda over the summer... She was rocking an iPod touch and doing vocals and I ran everything thru a crapload of pedals, while we had a percussionist doing his thing alongside all the craziness. If you are able to think outside of the box a little, you can do a whole lot with just an iPod and a few effects.

EDIT: I should mention that our performances were at a place in Toronto called "the Vapour Lounge", which is one of those places where you can smoke weed all night long... I'm sure I had a pretty serious contact high from all the smoke. There's really no way to tell for certain how great the performance was. There was a whole lot of delay used, I'll say that much. Oh, and a lot of :snax: afterwards.

I played with Joint Chiefs of Math and the guitarist had one mounted on his guitar. I think he mentioned having gone through three after applying it to a live setting. I think he was using that Nlog synth app.

There is a MOOG app which is pretty amazing! There is also a ton of drum machine apps that are fantastic.

I used to have one that I pretty much only ran TouchOSC on for controlling Ableton Live. I sold it with the intention of doing basically the same thing on a bigger scale with the iPad, but then things sort of moved in a different direction and that control idea was obviated.

I have a lot of fun with Bebot. It's really fun to play with and can be quite simple, but you can get pretty complicated with it if you want (Jordan Rudess uses it live sometimes...). I'd say so far the best apps I've come across are for synth and drums, but I'm sure there are plenty more out there I don't know about.

I love Bebot! Brian Eno's Bloom is pretty killer as well.

You can get the apple camera kit for the ipad and use the standard size usb port. It is proven to work with other devices, it must have it's own power source.

I have an iPod touch and am getting an iPad soon, so I might try something like this (minus the übershredding and newage).
