One thing that dives me up the wall is people that don't know what they are talking about giving advise The internetz are full of it. This is a thread to post what you feel is widespreadly known but BS....


One of the big ones [with bassists] is octave pedals and tracking. It is amazing how much BS there is out there on analog octaver tracking. Also the MXR Blue Box and how it works on bass. I love octave effects and own a bunch [7ish] of them so I feel I have some understanding on how the sound and how they track. First For the most part all analog one octave down Octavers track THE SAME! Boss, DOD, MXR, Dano, EHX ect all track on the same bass the same, which is around A on the low E, if your tracking is better it is o to the bass/strings you are using AND HOW YOU PLAY, the more fundamental the better. The end. You want to argue this then please prove me wrong and I will buy that pedal.

Next is the Blue Box: A lot of guys say it does not work on bass well, this again is wrong. It works fine... but actually it tracks better on bass then guitar and it is two octaves down not one.... go figure, most two oct downs don't work the best on bass.... you can really control it's tracking/not tracking [ie what makes a BB cool sounding] by playing attack which is just neat and you can really get some cool synth sounds with it.

There's so many things that get me ragey. Underpowering cabs, effect pedals working on bass, why I don't use a five string instead of tuning down...ugh.

I totally agree, it's the domino effect of bad info. I think if a new bassist or guitarist hears somethign from some guy at Guitar Center or something that it must be right mearley for the fact that the guy "plays for a living," after this a few bad youtueb videos and harmony central reviews later, it's exactley what your talking about.

I like the Blue Box and there is a difference between bad tracking and bad skill.

I have a five string, and even in my old band, there were a couple of songs that were just EASIER to play in drop D. One of those "unless you do it, you really won't get it" things.

I don't understand the big deal with pedals not sounding good with active electronics. I liked my Sun Face and Phantom Octave and year4545 just fine..

Shit, sorry man that might've been me (well minus the Warwick part, I just can't make myself play anything that ugly). I haven't owned a bass since mine got stolen over ten years ago, whenever I play one I feel compelled to slap despite my total suckiness at it. I sincerely apologize.

I have a few pedals that do NOT play well with actives and other pedals before it, the sound gets all crumply and cuts in and out. It isn't so much a sounds bad thing as becomes unusable for anything other then noise and odd sounds.

I hate it when people ask me why my amp is so large, or try to tell me I only need 100W with one 15 for bass, and 30w tops for guitar.

Also, next person that says slappa the bass is getting punched in the fucking chin.

Stop fucking telling me there's some sort of magic to these stupidly expensive active basses and gloried PA system amps. Unless magic means always sounding exactly the fucking same, fuck off.
