Awesome! I see there is a little Lisa Papineau on there...very cool.
Song #2 has a KILLER riff and song #8 has that south of the border feel. Great stuff!!

After a few more listens it seems like he is maturing as a solo musicians.
Even though I like 90% of his stuff some of the older ones are psychedelic and weird solely for the sake of being pyschedelic and weird. This feels more streamlined in a way. Whacky and offbeat but still good composition
Me likes much

I'm not a big fan of the Mars Volta's albums, but honestly one of the best bands live I have ever seen, period. On par if not slightly better than Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On (which is in my opinion is one of the top 10 albums of all time), Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Boris, Sleep, and many other great bands I've seen live. The lead singer did say at the beginning that everyone hates our new material so we're just gonna play old material (it was heavy on De-Loused).

Interesting. I wouldn't think Cedric would do that. I happen to be a huge TMV fan (in my top 5 ever). I personally think they're awful live (terrible mixing is probably why i think that). My roomate (TMV/Omar is biggest influences) said El Grupo de Omar R. Lopez is the best thing he's ever seen live.

I have heard they are terrible live as well, but I swear they were amazing at Bonnaroo '09, so that might be a different setting than how you saw them (venue possibly?). No mixing problems, and Thomas Pridgen is one of the best drummer I have ever seen live, he never stopped playing for an hour and a half, the little transitions between songs he just kept playing. Also, Cedric def. said that, I wouldn't lie, and they did play all old stuff.

I wish they'd put out the jam with him John and Flea. The video is great but a high quality recording would be outstanding.

I'm by no means a huge Volta fan, when I do listen I either listen to De-Loused or Frances, and since Theodore was the drummer for those I agree with you, but I never saw him live. I do love El Grupo Nuevo De Omar Rodriguez Lopez, even if he does love his name a little too much.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way, Frances The Mute practically changed my life but the only time I saw them live I walked out halfway through. Actually today is the first time I've listened to them since that fateful night about 3 years ago, and only because I met Juan Alderete at work today and the dude was cool as fuck. That guy LIVES to play. He's what, 47 years old, and upon seeing new gear acts like a young teenager the first time s/he walks into Guitar Center. Much respect for dudes in it for the love.

Cool story about Juan Alderete!
I'm a little older, 41, and I was into RacerX since the day they came out. So I've been a JA fan forever! But I honestly didn't even know about TMV until right before Francis came out...like literally 2 weeks. I just got the Bass Player mag with him on the cover. I was so jacked to see him doing something big again and knew they had to kickass so I scored DITC and was blown away. And that didn't even have him on it.
So I bought FTM it the day it came out and yeah, it practically changed my lfe too.
From that point on, I took a musical u-turn in my approach mentally/philosophically to playing bass and using effects.
It's awesome to hear that he really is just one of us.
................oh yeah and Omar kicks ass too!
