Devi Workhorse/Cherry Pop tone control

Post by McSpunckle »

Hey, kids. I'm trying to get a pedal working right, and I can't find any info. I basically need to know how the Cherry Pop/Workhorse tone control is wired. So! Anyone with one that wants to take a look...

Here's a schematic I did in paint (from Devi's SM schematic):

It's acting screwy, though. Oscillates way too easily, which you'd expect from a feedback path like that.

100k pot.

Lug 1: collector of Q2
Lug 2: 3.3M resistor
Lug 3: lug 3 of the volume pot, not the grounded one which should be lug 1

You might want to switch lugs 1 and 3 depending on how the "tone" control works.

And the other leg of the 3m3 is connected to the base of Q2, correct?

It seems I got it right...

So the search continues.

Thanks for the info!

Yep.

Everything is pretty much at max gain. If you want to bring it back under control, the first thing I would do is put a small resistor (less than 1k) from the emitter to ground on Q1 and Q2. Play with the values. Your basic gain formula is (collector resistor)/(emitter resistor). You have some feedback resistors and caps changing that as well, but those are important to the overall sound.

Oh, I posted that schematic to see if it was correct. I'm just trying to make a pedal work properly that had some loose wires, and that was the only part of the circuit I didn't know.

You're right, though. Some emitter resistors would be great for this circuit...

i thought the tone control for the CP was a BMP tone stack, no?

Almost 2 years later... I have the pedal and am trying to fix it.

If needed, I have both and can provide gut shots...

Devi does it again! hooking your output to +9v through only 110k :picard:

Yeah, maybe add a DC blocking cap to pin 3 of the "tone" pot before it connects to the volume, you don't want DC on the output!

I'd say put it between the collector junction and the "tone" pot. That way you keep DC off the pot too.
