Melody amps (Japanese, 1960s)?

Anyone know anything about Melody amps?

There's a beautiful red 2x6 combo in a music shop near me for $300. It has reverb and tremolo and sounds sweet as can be.

It just says Melody on the front, no model number of anything. I can't find anything on the web about them. Basically I know it's from the 60s and is Japanese.

If anyone knows anything about them let me know!
Also is 300 is a good price?

Cheers! :thumb:

Sounds like a cool amp! As for the price...do you have that much to swing? Does it sound good enough to you to dish out 300? It prob sold for damn near nothing when it was made, as many of those old sleeper amps do. Today they are all in that price range most of the time. I LOVE my old sleeper amps like that, but paid nowhere near the asking prices we see so much today. I say get it if it sounds good and works well :idk:

I don't really have the money  but it's exactly the kind of cool small amp I've been looking for. I've tried out some Univoxes, Alamos, Silvertones, Magnatones and other things like that around the 250-300 price range, and this is the best sounding so far. So yeah it's worth it, I just wouldnt want to find out afterwards they usually go for 150, know what i mean?

I think the amp might be exactly the same as a Teisco 72-R... not that I know anything abut that either!

It looks almost exactly lke this, but a 2x6

Looks like a re-badged silvertone to me. I'd get it, but I have a soft spot for those types of amps.

Offer them less, worst they say is no. I find it fairly easy to haggle with people if you try.

More of a Gretsch/Valco look especially the covering

They did make a 2x8 Gretsch Safari as well as a 2x8 version of the Supro Tremoverb

Does it have Daka Ware knobs with no pointers?
