Pissed (busted amp content)

So, I used to play with a couple of dudes the next town over. We tried rekindling the old flame, brought our shit down there, jammed once, said we should do it again soon.

Months later with no response, I'm getting damn sick of it, so I go and pick up my stuff (I took my cables, I just left the head and cab (GK 400RB mark IV and GK 4x10) because my brother was in a hurry to leave, didn't wanna help carry shit), take it home..

Plug it in, powers on, but doesn't work. The clipping light shows up when I hit it hard, so I know it's getting signal. I used the cables (instrument, power, and speaker) on other setups, and the cab and all the cables work fine. When I do hit it hard to make the clipping light show up, there's a slight popping noise go through the cab. And some of the screws are rusty and I can't get them out. I don't think they were that way before...

Yeaaaah. Damn.

Gotta love bench fees. I'm making that drumfuck pay for it.

Oh. I call him drumfuck for a good reason: we HAD THE SLOT to open for Dear Hunter and Thrice last November..and he backs out on us two weeks before.
And he's whipped by his engagedladyfriend. BUT BESIDES THAT he's a supercool kid :(

Oh, we got it open. It was definitively spilled on by something, got on the fan and I don't know what else.

that will do it. Never leave your amp alone, I learned that the hard way.

So I texted drummer friend..and I DO trust the guy, he actually called me. he said he didn't, but our guitarist (who is kinda weasely) was tooling with it. Also, the goo inside was greenish. You know what the guitarist drinks a lot of and has sitting around all over of? Mountain Dew. Drummer doesn't really even drink pop.

If it is pop in your amp that REALLY isn't a good thing... might end up with Pepsi Syndrome... :poke: TECH!

I'm wondering if this thing is even worth putting the money into for saving it. It's ooold. Does the job, but I got it for like $200. Meh

Well there's that... last time I had a amp in the shop the bill was like $460  My SVTCL over heated and melted part of the PCB :picard:

I think you should tie the fucker up and do shit to him for not respecting your gear.

You can get it all cleaned up and probably replace any of the damaged actives if you know anyone who is really handy with desoldering and troubleshooting.

Sounds like our bassist's ampeg head.

Its a programmable one but he cant push the volume worth a shit or there is clicking and the clipping/limit defeat light comes on. Told him he probably should take it to a tech here soon because there is no jamming without it... he sold his combo and I dont think he's going to play bass through a pathfinder 10.

If your amp is only 200 bucks and your not attached too it, then its probably best that you just toss it and get a new one.

However that still does not solve the issue at hand, someone has to at least kick down some money to pay for the replacement.

Things I learned from leaving equipment at some ones house or loaning equipment to other people.

!. “The cord she was using was too short so when I tried to walk between her and the amp I tripped and broke the cable and pick guard. You should have given her a longer cord”

2. “It just stopped working” Two shattered power tubes and aluminum foil wrapped around the fuse.

3. “I don’t know what happened” nicks, gashes and broken strings.

4. “I left it in my car, house etc and it got stolen”

6. “I loaned it to a friend, he’s good people, you’ll get it back”

Sorry to hear that. I'll give a big +1 to taking your gear with you anytime it's at a place with people you don't trust.

If you don't want to have it fixed, you could also see about just recouping some amount of money and sell it "as-is." You might get only $50 for it, but that's better than scrapping it entirely.

Too bad too; I dig the GK sound.
