This might be a long shot, but...

...have any of you had experience with resonator guitars? Originally, I was looking at purchasing a steel one but it's beginning to look like that might not be the best idea for a travelmate. Now, I've got my eye on some wooden ones, specifically a couple that can be found at Musician's Friend - the Dobro Hound Dog and the Dean (dean makes resonators?!) CE electric/acoustic. There are no Musician's Friend outlets in Canada and none of the store within 50km of me sell anything but Goldtone and Fender resos... Any help would be much appreciated.

My dad has a two resonators. One wooden (Regal i think) and one steel (johnson maybe?). Nothing up to par with Nationals or anything haha, but still great sounding to my ears. What is it you're looking to know about them?

The band i just joined, New Science Projects (nspnsp.com), used to just be one guy and a wooden resonator. His is an Epiphone that's no longer in production, and it rules. Not very bright either.

same epiphone?

Yup. Except that guy's reso isn't covered in blood (both fake and real), black greasepaint, and a large piece of duct tape that has "ASSHOLE" scrawled on it.

He played an event for children at a library one time. The subject material of the songs is mostly how life is useless and you should just commit suicide. He even has stickers that say "GIVE UP AND DIE".

Woah. I forgot I even posted this thred... geez, I must be getting old.

Anyway, I was most interested in a biscuit bridge because I hear that they're the best for projection and that dirty blues sound. Most resonators seem to come with spiders, though.

I've read mixed reviews about those Epiphone biscuit resos. Some have said that they're excellent and others have said that they're dead quiet. This is going to be my only guitar and my main source of income for a while, so I need to be certain that it's gonna give me the volume I need on the street.

Eastwood usually makes pretty good stuff and their base of operations isn't too far from where I live. Maybe I'll check them out... That reso looks like an old Supro guitar! (Supros were all made of fiberglass or some similar material)

What do you guys think about this guy:

Acoustic:

I don't know much about reso's, but that second vid actually sounds pretty good...I noticed you said you weren't really looking for a Fender...so I guess I'm not much help..as that's the only reso I've actually played..thought it was pretty nice, actually, for the price.

Also, those Eastwoods are pretty cool-looking...never played one (Eastwoods in general are    in my book)

The reason I said I didn't really like the Fender reso was because I played a few of them and they were all very quiet and sounded more like a regular acoustic than a resonator. :idk:

Hey, check out this fun little video that I found. It's an animation of the parts of a single cone, biscuit bridge resonator:

(does anybody know how to make vimeo vids work on our board? I've been trying for ages and just can't seem to figure it out.)

I tried to make it embedded, but it doesn't seem to work with the vimeo knob code, every way I tried it..
