Random venting session

Ok, so....

My band had started to get some positive notes around our area. We were playing some really incredible shows, recorded and EP (never came out), practiced heavily and then all of the sudden it all stopped. Our drummer and keyboard player just kind of lost contact with myself, our bassist and our other guitarist.

In the midst of all of this our drummer had some family stuff happening and our keyboard player had some intense work stuff going on. At first it was, 'ok, i get it, they're busy, they need time, etc...' But then it got to the point where it was like 'dude, if we don't hear from them, we're fuckkkkked.'

So after trying to contact them many a time, we've gotten nothing. I get it, they're not feeling it or something. But why? If it was as easy as asking them, I would....I'll never get a response, though. It leaves this emptiness in my soul.

Not that it's a huge deal, I'm sure most of you have it happen all of them time... But, we actually had large venues (notably grog shop, beachland ballroom) calling us to open for touring acts. That just doesn't happen very often. People REALLY enjoyed listening to us and coming to shows. They always had positive stuff to say outside of 'yeah dude, that was cool.'

I'm bummin, hard.

Sorry to hear that -- can't you get a new drummer and keyboard player?
How hard can that be? :idk:
(I know, I know ... been in a similar situation twice before, maybe yours will work out better ... )

Haha, we've tried the drummer thing. I'm from Cleveland (you remember).

Everyone here is REALLY into ripping off killswitch engage, creed and david bazan (i love David Bazan mind you).

Aside from myself and our old drummer (we've had 2 others), we can't find a single one who can sit and the pocket, lock with our bassist and let us guitarists and keyboard players layer. Man, we all worked so well together.

Stuff stinks.

Thought about it already. I just don't like the feeling of playing with a drum machine. So robotic. No offense to those who love drum machines, i think they certainly serve a great purpose, I just can't get used to them.

THAT would make my brother in law want to kill people (he's a badass drummer).... BUT i had to buy one because he never wants to jam with me....

the thought of ANYONE ripping off Creed makes me go BLECH!

Seriously though, it's hard to keep people focused when it's about music... most of the time people get into it to have fun and enjoy jamming and when it starts to get serious they shut off.... happens in a lot of "artistic" endeavors and i've been the victim of it a few times.... i cannot tell you how hard it is to find a writing partner that doesn't lose interest to catching up with Battlestar Galactica reruns.....

This thread hits pretty close to home for me. I had to think of a way around not having a drummer or other like-minded musicians at my disposal. Pretty much all musicians in Columbus,GA. play in cover bands, and while that's fine(assuming that's yr bag),that ain't what I wanna do. And Creed?! Srsly????!!!!... :barf:

Argh - I feel your pain. Keeping band momentum going can be such backbreaking work sometimes. And finding a drummer that clicks with what you need/want/do is huge... in fact, the whole drummer issue is one of the things that broke up my last band. Or at least, made us evolve into a whole new thing... which, yes, does use sequenced drums. But then, the guy I play with grew up on synth-pop & electronic stuff, so it wasn't a conceptual big deal for him. Getting the whole sound to gel took quite a while, though. So, yeah. If there's any way you can get the drummer back, by all means do it. And if not, well, hopefully you can find someone else (though I understand the magnitude of that particular undertaking).

Definitely not any different in Columbus. Getting kinda rediculous.

Haha, yeah, that's where i grew up. It's DEF better in Columbus. And, there are sick bands in columbus. Not many here in Cleveland. Nights is one of our faves around here (communarchy's band)
