save repair Westbury/Guyatone/Ampeg/Rozz ParametricEQ

My Westbury-08 parametric Eq quit today. I thought it was a standard
neg center 9V but I may have been wrong. It worked and sounded great
on 9V daisy chain for a whole week but then just stopped.
The Aria ParaEq is probably more reliable and just as cheap but I kind got
attached to the big knobs and sound of this Westbury.
A 9Vbat showed it was pulling 14.6/17.90mA. I couldn't find a schematic
or manual online, but this spec sheet said it should only pull 6mA.

Its related to a few other pedals and has been written up with poor
reliability. Right now if I plug in 9V power supply it makes scary buzz but
the LED doesn't light up. If I use only a battery it overheats the battery
so it becomes too hot to touch in seconds.
Is there any thing else I can check with my multimeter on this thing?
Does anyone have a schematic or know of a better search than google
to find one? Can anyone recommend a good tech/repair service in
southern california that could work on this pedal without a schematic?
thanks,
