Autolux's new album: Transit Transit

Post by Communarchy »

No mention of this so far on the forum, I find this to be surprising. Anyone have any opinions on it? I personally think it's better as whole than Future Perfect. I remember seeing them about a year ago when they did a small tour and knowing, even then, that the new songs they were performing for the first time were better than their old stuff. Though it appears most have forgotten about this great band due to the 6 years between albums.

I did get it, and not sure how I feel about it quite yet. I really love Future Perfect, I'll have to give Transit another spin tonight and see. I do remember really liking one song in the middle of the cd, i think #7.

I listened to it a few times when i first got it and it didn't hit me that hard. Not like the first time I heard Turnsyle blues...great song.

the full album is on their myspace if anyone wants to listen to it. also they're doing a bunch of really cool merch things, like you can buy the vinyl and it comes with an mp3 download, that way you get something tangible to collect and use, but also you get the instant gratification of an mp3 download. i absolutely love that and think every label should do it.

i dunno how i feel about the new album though, it just didn't really capture my attention the first time i listened to it

I bought the CD version with mp3 download for 10 bucks. What a deal. Such an awesome idea they had there.

Anyway, I felt the same way, but I tend to like things that are acquired tastes. There are some slow burners on there, but they are awesome. I found that Future Perfect is great but I got burned out on it rather quickly.

Of course Turnstile Blues blew me away the first time I heard it, but really, that is the stand out on that album and I feel that not many of the songs on Future Perfect have that same impact, making it unbalanced. There's not a song by them I don't like mind you, just some that are good and a few that are great. With Transit Transit, there's no Turnstile Blues moments, they are more subdued in "Wow!" factor but more consistently great. That's how I feel.

That's Audience No.2 which is fucking spectacular. Probably the best song. That and Census have the most awesome drumbeats, a'la Turnstile Blues. Track 5, Spots, is slow but absolutely gorgeous. The same with the album closer, The Science of Imaginary Solutions.
