The whole mix just sounds lush and warm and compressed and fuzzy. Do you guys think they just slapped a limiter on the stereo mix and raised the levels or what audio wizardry is going on?!
Any ideas on this would be great. I just really enjoy how it sounds. It's tastefully done also because they don't use that 'effect' for the whole song but just towards the end. Pretty cool!
Right on, I saw that VFM on the board. I don't know though, the whole stereo mix including the drums and bass sound like they are going through whatever is making the sound at the end sound that way.

On the whole mix or just the guitars?
Guitars. I didn't read the entire op.
It's all good. I'm pretty sure that the entire mix is put through the same effect. I think it sounds like a mixture of limiting or extreme compression with some fuzz/distortion thrown in for good measure. Not sure how the result was achieved but I like the results!
Sounds like MP3 mush to me The guitar sounds like two dirts stacked with lots of reverb and echo. The OCD + a tubescreamer would get you that compressed midhump w/ feedback thing. Blend of close and room mic, then bring it down a bit in the mix maybe? Hard to tell from an MP3 though -- it's all squished anyway.
Good deals done with all these guys Canada, we put the "u" in satire

- yeah, I know it is hard to tell! Maybe I should buy the CD and maybe the sound quality won't be crap. I read the guitar player likes his delay and reverb!

I'm just now starting to get into their music. What album of their's should be my first acquisition?
I've been listening to them for a few years and it's all good just slightly different. The first album is the most different from the others and i wasn't really into the newest one but i haven't listened to it much. My favorites are the first two and "two conversations" and peregrine is good as well. Um check out some of the songs from the different albums and see what you like?
I'll just browse iTunes and start clicking on songs and see which album catches my ear first. Thanks for the advice.
If your a fan of Mineral, early JEW, and The Gloria Record... I'd go chronologically. Otherwise, Two Conversations is really solid. LLO #2 is one of my favorite ambient albums.

I've never heard of Mineral, JEW, or The Gloria Record so I'll definitely check them out. I think I'll start out with The Appleseed Cast's less emo stuff. I wish a could run a search on their songs and just search for songs with 'fuzz guitar' and then I would just buy those!
