Reminds me, I played with a band called Sleep Bellum Sonno recently, and the guitar player was touring with a Triangle Muff. Had the on-off switch and everything. He said he got it from his parent's basement.

That's awesome. Went on a craze after watching a decided I need to build myself the "Civil War" fuzz.

You're actually the reason I found that site. I was going through your fuzz and realized I'm not sure how many Muffs exist and what the difference was.

Maybe one day I;ll get round to building my BYOC Large Beaver kit.

I have owned a few Big Muffs, a black russian one, two NYC reissues and a Little Big muff (the die-cast one, mine is an early one with reverse order knobs), and I just like that sound, and variations on it.

Plus, it NEVER gets old saying to people "I have a big muff", especially if you're a dude, and people look at you funny.

Mike Matthews' tale is really interesting, I like reading about him and those must have been exciting days back in the late 60s and early 70s for electronics and effects and music.

Yeah, seems like he was hungry for new ideas. It's great, despite his perverted nature.

The NYC Big Muff was probably my least favorite of all. So flat.

Argh...seeing this site (and that one other Muff site that's similar..can't remember the name) always make me want a Muff
Still trying to sort out an overdrive/fuzz pedal...maybe I should just get a good ol' BMP...thinking about one of those Stomp Underfoot muff clones (I think they offer just about every muff variation there is, in updated 21st century form...in fact, is the guy who makes those on here?)

I have a real love hate thing with the things as I love them when I play by my self but almost all of them turn to mush in a band situation for me.

Sound wise I likeSovtek/Russian based ones. In a band setting I like the Thunder Cloud by Katana Sound which is based on a broken rams head.

I feel the Bass Big Muff is only good for a paper weight and nothing more!

Yeah, I was sure all were useless...especially after playing the NYC and the Black Sovtek. Last weekend, I was volunteering a festival and a band was using the Sovtek Green Box and it sounded so good. Especially, with the POG before.

The Stomp Under Foot muffs seem pretty good. I'd personally rather buy one of culturejams' pcbs and build it.

Yeah the black Sovteks sucked for a while big time, every one I tried I hated! My benchmark for muffs is my old green one as it is the first fuzz I ever bought. I find the newer black russians to be ok though, not a thick as the green ones but still better then the black sovteks.. I think I got my BR for $55 so

I hear you on the NYC, it is kinda meh but still less meh then the lifeless pile of poo know as the BBM.
