Im so freakin' excited ( ) because all of my components are getting here this week. I order $75 (usd) in components for pedals and they will be here this week. BUUUUUHT i didn't get and potentiometers because they were not cheap and i was on a budget. Can you use regular resistors as potentiometers?

If a schematic calls for a pot, best to use a pot. If you have a bunch of resistors that are in the range of a pot, for example a 10k pot and 1k - 2.2k - 4.7k - 10k resistors, you could use those in place of a pot. It would be like a pot setting but at a fixed value. I would only experiment with this on a breadboard and not to a pcb, vero, or perf because you might not like the result.

Go to Radio Shack or any local electronics store and pick up some pots. 2 bucks at R Shack. If you need to buy only 2 or three better to do that.

And you coulda got some cheap trimmers cause with fixed resistors... you're not really gunna be able to control pedals and for a first timer, dropping the pots might get confusing or be impractical in places, plus you cant find out what settings you'll like easily on a pedal unless you breadboard loads of different values.

But yes, you can in some cases depending on what you're doing just stick fixed resistors in without any trouble.
