Your scene?

So, I went to see my friend's band Two Knights (
http://www.myspace.com/thetwoknights <-decent two man indie math band) at a local club tonight, and realized that, in the DFW local scene, for every one actually decent band, there are eight TERRIBLE hardcore bands, and two thirds of those hardcore bands are also christian. One band, out of the four hardcore bands on the bill, had a group chant of "SATAN, YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER ME!", then went into a crabwalk breakdown. I was literally rolling on the ground at the Door Dallas, crying due to laughter.
So, what is YOUR local scene like?

I feel lucky to have such a great scene in the small town that I live in. There's a lot of notsogreat artists that play acoustic stuff, but my friends and I have a bunch of bands that play good music.
myspace.com/thezomb
myspace.com/tokkobandito
myspace.com/franciecopelli
myspace.com/adejams
myspace.com/ccamofrogg
myspace.com/queerwhale
myspace.com/welcometoplanetshhh
myspace.com/crippledbybears
myspace.com/lickmybluestartattoos - nothing on the space, core member died before anything could be recorded and the rest of us don't know the ms password.
myspace.com/baddestblood
http://www.youtube.com/user/datsanicedick - this guy is in most of the bands on the scene
myspace.com/tsunshining
myspace.com/kayzeejay
myspace.com/mufasaxcmusic
myspace.com/thecomanauts
and three or four other bands that don't have myspace accounts/recordings and only exist in the memory of people that have seen them.

There's probably five to ten good local bands. But our town has actually started to develop a solid scene and this summer is kind of a big test to if we can keep it up. We just had the Local Symphony sponsor an Indie rock show. So we got to play in a huge space that was acoustically amazing. We also have a 3 day Festival at our fair grounds that a lot of people are attending.
There are still a lot of ridiculous bands but compared to the good bands we have there's a lot of variety. Shoegaze, punk, alternative, acoustic duo, pop punk, ambient. Pretty nice.
I used to hate our scene but it's getting better now.

Columbus,GA. is cover band hell. Horrible,Seether,Matchbox 20,Candlebox bullshit no matter what bar you go to. There are a few original artists who sound pretty solid. Spy For Hire is a friend of mine's band. They remind me of Shudder To Think meets Supergrass. There's also Continue and Save, who are an 8 Bit synthpop band, and the Bibb City Ramblers who do a blend of psych, folk, and Bluegrass. Then there's me. That's pretty much it though

Most of the "big" bands here in Denver are you're standard Indie faire. Though there is a ton of bands of any genre here except maybe metal. not much of that stuff here is good. Then again I don't really like that sound so I can't say if there's any good bands here. Too many fucking Jam bands due to our close relationship to Boulder and Med-pot dispensaries but really each scene kinda sticks to itself listener wise. Pot heads play at the pot head venues, indie and rock bands play at their venues, punk kids play warehouses or bars, I think I started a thread a while back where people were supposed to link some videos or streams of bands from their town they like. I should try and find that again.

Oly-WA is either americana [blues, country, Jug-band

ect] or shit collage punk/alt, drum circles....and TONZ of HORRID FOLK. Not much else. All that was once is gone, Kill rockstars and all that is gone

I have yet to hear a cool HEAVY act which I find sad as this is the area that The Melvins and Earth come from

I did forget two mention two things I enjoy about our scene. Love and Reason, a tiny, sorta-illegal local venue in Arlington owned by a burned out ex-hippie, and 1919 Hemphill (
http://1919hemphill.org), a fantastic, DIY punk venue in the vein of 924 Gilman, except way less strict, and more fun.
Oh, and, Denton is close, and there's a million places to play in Denton. BTW, if anyone ever needs a show in DFW that will be devoid of hXc, lemme know.

That literally has me LOWLING.
Ugh... Huntsville used to have a similar "Modern" Hardcore/Post-Hardcore scene that sounds a lot like this... but that was, like, '04... Man, I thought
we were behind the times! :P
The places I hang out consist mostly of an amalgam of old hippies, punks, hippie-esque punks, and punk-esque hippies, with just a splash of "Indie kids" (some cool, some fucking douches) and hipsters... but not enough of the later to be annoying, just enough to lulz @.
Thankfully, there are a lot less scenesters around today... The crowds usually change depending on what bands are playing at The Flying Monkey, though...

The scene around here sucks. All the little venues we used to play in high school have all shut down, and all the bands around here a pretty terrible.
All the bands around are either power pop or weird comedic(?) heavy rock bands.
All though I do have the privilege of saying my band in high school revived the Myrtle Beach ska scene, at the time. It was really weird, after we broke up, to get recognized by people.

There really is nothing quite like a good, local ska band. Like a fine wine, but with more skanking.

Columbus/Grove City Ohio...
It's running amok with little scenesters and their br00tal hxc dancing to dance gavin dance, never shout never, bring me the horizon and whatnot...

Really, our music scene has...hardly anything at this point, some band covered porcupine tree once?
Local stuff just came back to the only radio station that is hardly worth listening to and they all sound like hatebreed recorded with a different name and cheap equipment.
It's good to hear about yours getting better PP, maybe that means we will soon.
