On top of my internet being down for the last four days...

My laptop died last week.

Tonight, my desktop unexpectedly died. Totally shot, motherboard gone. Only way to access the harddrive is to replace it with the same brand motherboard--to spend $200 to replace the faulty motherboard...which will die again.

And I need to get a replacement computer right away. So accessing my harddrive is a ways off, might never happen

I -do- have a backup drive that should have some of what I`ve lost...not all by any means. I`ll know in a day or so what I`ve lost.

This is seriously not good.

Do you have the restore disc? If so, load it up, restart, then choose do the "erase and reinstall" option. That should wipe it all clean.

I was reallllly frustrated and feeling defeated last night. :/

Today, I mailed my desktop off (which is supposed to be covered by warranty). I'll scrape some funds together and decided about repairing my laptop. Of course, I couldn't wait a few weeks w/o a computer, so I also had to buy a new one. I'm setting it up now, downloading programs, and getting backups restored. My internet is still spotty, but should be resolved in a couple days.

Sorry to hear about the computer troubles Tom, I feel ya. My desktop went kaput a while back, got a new laptop & now it's about to go out as well. Damn technologies.

Any way you can write it off as a business expense on your taxes? I mean, you do run an online business after all...

So I've got the new laptop nearly setup, and will be able to have most operations back and running tonight.

There internet people were here today (for the unrelated internet issues!)...they were here for over three hours. I learned technical terms like "shit the bed" and "holy mother fuck".

They've got the net somewhat back, but it's fluctuating between fast and slow. They're coming back tomorrow with bucket trucks. Apparently, they've got some major problems. They found three different wire and cable problems today (outside) and they still weren't able to fix it 100%.

if you still need to access stuff off your old hard drive, you can buy a USB hard drive adapter. it'll let you hook up your HD to your comp by USB and read it like if were a flash drive or external HD.

they run pretty cheap, ive got this $20 one:
