Guess The Delay Shootout Video

I spent the past day or two recording a nice blind shootout of the deluxe memory boy, skreddy echo, echo 600 dark, deluxe memory man, and 4 models from the M9 using fancy mics/converters/daw etc.

...and apparently I fucked something up because the files are now all corrupt. What the fuck.

Stupid simple version just using the camcorder to follow tonight/tomorrow  Now youtube and my canon can rape the shit out of the cork sniffery goodness.

Sounds like a great shootout! What kind of daw are you using?

I'm learning the new presonus studio one, but apparently I'm not quite there yet

That looks like really cool software! Really slick! So does it come as a package with an input preamp box kinda thing or is it just software?

You can buy it alone, but it came with the presonus firestudio mobile I bought. I like the firebox/studio line so I figure software designed around it is worth looking into it.

Clip is uploaded and processing!
8 Clips, the same riff (you'll hate it by the end), featuring:

EHX Deluxe Memory Boy / Deluxe Memory Man
Line 6 M9 Analog Echo/Lo-Res Delay/Tape Echo/Tube Echo
Malekko Echo 600 Dark
Skreddy Echo

I know it was rushed/sloppy but no guesses at all?

Great shootout Jon!

I've never played any of those pedals in person but I liked #1, #5, and #6... I liked them all I guess except I thought #4 had very tinny/thin repeats... love to hear the results though!

I liked 3, 5 and 6 best.

Couldn’t begin to guess which is which though.

So, what are the pedals respectively producing the various sounds?

Looking forward to the reveal. I wrote down some descriptive statement for each delay as I am in the process of selling all my delays and leaning towards getting an M9. I cannot wait to hear how it did in this blind test. I love it when I can truly let me ears decide. Thanks for doing this!

I haven't forgotten about this, I'm glad a few people are seeing this now.

I might wait a bit longer to reveal, though if you really want to know, post your answers here and mention you want the reveal PM'd.
Maybe it can get some interesting delay talk going :thumb:

I will mention I don't think it was entirely fair, these delays all shine at different things.
But I feel too many shootout show you completely different riffs or even styles of playing that eliminate any chance of comparing what any two given delays sound like.

Why not make it simple and just tell the results?

I've owned a Skreddy Echo before and it was soooooooooooo rad  . It kicked my M13 in the twig-n'-berries so I sold it........then I sold the Skrecho....such is the disease.

Anyway, I now own a Strymon Brigadier  and it is sooooo cool, it can't do the Skreddy sound :grumpy: .....but it rocks :yay: ....harder than other delays I've owned.

Oh not this thread again

I'll be honest I lost the sheet I wrote down the answers on...I'll go poke through the recording files of the corrupt version, I did them in the same order.

*OK in a fit of rage I apparently deleted the audio files, but I did find said sheet. The answers:

1. M9 Lo-Res
2. E600D
3. M9 Tube Echo
4. M9 Tape Echo
5. Delxe Memory Boy
6. M9 Analog Echo
7. Skrecho
8. Deluxe Memory Man

*Disclaimer This is by no means a definitive X is better than Y delay video.
Some of them are meant to have modulation on or make use of additional features like assignable expression or an effects loop, so it wasn't completely fair.
I just wanted to see how closely I could match all of the above with simple settings around 325-350ms

If you want to know the real winners I'll tell you which 2 are still on my board: E600D and the Skrecho
