Recipe for pure joy:

1. acquire PS4
2. purchase Earth Defense Force 5
3. turn off in game music
4. turn on old-timey music for enhanced goofiness. If you have Spotify, I recommend 'Surf-Age Nuggets' or 'Sam Cooke - Portrait of a Legend'
5. stop the giant insects and frogs and kaijus from destroying the world before you can destroy it yourself

optional step 6: find a friend for couch co-op.

No one came to the bar while I was there, ended up playing Immortal Redneck for 4 hours. No regrets.

Dang that's a fond memory

What's our hive mind conception of what a meme is? I think it's safe to say that counts as an early viral video, but it doesn't seem like a meme to me.

Bought myself a full desk/XL mousepad and finally eased my way down to playing FPS games at 400dpi. Feels way more accurate and you use your arm rather than relying on wrist only, supposedly its more ergonomic and reduces RSI. :idk:

Got a few games I wanna try that won't run on my 11 yo Macbook Pro, and I have no pc or current gen console (was borrowing an XBox then PS4 previously).

Looks like the games I'm interested in will run on either a decently spec'd pc lappy, or PS4. Should I just get a PS4 (and yes I realize this isn't actually the the smart time to buy one), or is there a gaming reason to go pc/Steam in addition to the life bidness reasons to have one? Maybe split the baby and get a used PS4 for as cheap as I can find, and a cheapo lappy to do the boring pc stuff?

Bah--thinking about the choices has already given me option paralysis....

If it were me, I'd get a PS4.

1. Are you looking to play games online with your friends? If so, get what they have.
2. Do you have a decent TV or monitor already? If you do, PS4.
3. Can you get the games you want on PS4? If you can, PS4.

I like a dedicated console because it doesn't require much care and feeding. Every Windows machine I've ever owned has required some degree of system administration, and that's the last thing I want to deal with when I sit down to play a game. You do pay more for games than you would on Steam, but the PS4 hardware is cheaper than a PC worth gaming on. And if you switch from Mac to PC, factor in any software you'd need to buy for Windows that you already have on Mac. New MacBook Pros are pricey, but for web, writing, and spreadsheets a refurb MacBook or Air would do the job for not too much money.
