My wife got me a switch. Dead Cells, man. It's a blast. Lovin' the switch.
Yeah, one of the rare games I bought twice (when it started early access on PC and then when it got a proper release on Switch). Really good design overall, extremely enjoyable and well tuned game. It's actually something we sometimes use as a reference at work (making games too), even though it's quite recent it does so many things well that it's worth learning a bit from...
Btw, there was a big update on PC recently that will arrive on consoles a bit later (submitting on consoles is a longer process), quite a bit of cool stuff in that one.

Well tuned is a good way to put it. Like every run I feel like I get just a bit better and it hasn't gotten old. Just getting the flow and learning how to roll with certain weapons gives it a lot of variety.
Good to know about the update. I'm not very far (haven't finished a full run yet) because my wife had to beat Kirby first. Kirby is fun too...it's got flaws, but it's good enough.
I've had Travis Strikes Again on preorder since it was announced (was buying it no matter what haha). Make it awesome so we get part 3.

Bought Dead Cells due to hype here pushing me over the edge. Oh, and I had some Xbox credit.

Get less graphically demanding games for long travels so you can play for longer stretches of time. If you have really big hands/thicc fingers, consider getting a pro controller for home use. Other than that, it's a great console, IMO.

We bought the kiddo a Switch for Christmas this year. I have for sure played it more than her since we got it. Snagged Hollow Knight and VS. Super Mario. Love being able to walk around the house with the switch. Now have a way to play Fortnite ( which the whole family aside from me hates ) without being ridiculed mercilessly by my wife for playing it on the living room TV. Hadn't heard of Dead Cells, looks cool.

I think the Switch is by far worth it for Zelda alone.

Hahah, I used to work at Grasshopper for quite a while but I haven't played anything from GhM since I left. There hasn't been much though since the company got bought by Gung Ho (which in turn got bought by Softbank)...

gooood stuff. thanks!
so, when it's docked means playing into a tv through a dock? or does it run rez/frame rate whilst charging?
cool to see Undertale is on there, always wanted to try that. will probably grab that and the Shovel Night bundle to start.
i have a PS4, mostly want the Switch for traveling/playing in bed.

also - playability, is there any difference in download vs grabbing a cartridge? looks/runs different? any copyright protection issues?

Yep, the dock has HDMI out and it runs through your TV. I believe it runs at 1080 when docked and it looks great through my 4k tv, never had any weirdness.

Unless you plan on reselling games, download is much more convenient I think...
No real difference in terms of performance (very slight loading times differences maybe) and download games are limited to one account so you can't play them on another console if that's an issue for you.

Switch looks great docked, no lag or anything. Its really kinda magical being able to casually swap around how you play. I love the modular nature of it.
Games also look great handheld. There is a slight texture drop of course, but nothing distracting. Its still miles above the DS era on portable.
Also Smash is amazing. Ridley is dope, and my boy Gannondorf has his old Melee look back. Mashed Potato Sack of Fries truly has blessed us~

orrrrrrrrdered. grabbed a Switch with grey joy-cons (i... kinda HATE that name), some thumbpad covers and the trigger grip and case from Skull and Co., glass screen protector, a 128 gig fast butts card.
because of all the YESHHHHHHHHH about Dead Cells, defo going to grab that sharpish.
going to try the grips that look like it will make the system wayyyyyyyyyy more comfy to play in standalone first, as neat as the Pro Controller looks, i'm going to primarily be playing this in bed or on the couch so dunno how convenient it would be to have to put the screen on a stand?
was going to grab Shovel Knight, Celeste, Undertale when the system gets here, i'm super geeked about getting Diablo 3 on a portable and the Super Meat Boy (loved the first two) when it drops, but wanted to check out some other stuff first. any other game/accessory recommendations?

Taking a break from overwatch and decided to play Bioshock remastered. It's still good. The atmosphere of that game is on point.
