Tried new X-Files, it was complete garbage just like the last season.
Tried season 4 of Black Mirror and I don't think I'll even bother finishing it. I really, really liked the first three seasons but so far this is overwhelmingly thin and corny. Fairly disappointed to be honest but I guess this means it's time to stop making it and let it die as a show that was at least mostly good.

Did however start Narcos and am enjoying it more than I expected, would have liked a slower buildup and more time spent on Pablo's rise to power, it all feels a bit rushed sometimes but it's still entertaining.

Narcos has to have the highest new character introduced to new character shot in the face within the episode ratio of any show ever.

Thanks for clueing me into Ben Frost. Now I know who he is. Dark is the only show I don’t skip the intro song on right now :)

And the music / sound design in general is great

That was the worst episode of the X-Files ever. I feel like they are turning it into a soap opera with the way it was shot and edited. Way too dramatic.

*Dumb voice-over*
*Let's just completely destroy the narrative set up in the last episode, which was actually solid*
SPOILER : show
*OH, LET'S MAKE MULDER'S KID ACTUALLY HIS REAL DAD'S KID BECAUSE THAT'S NOT CREEPY AS FUCK AND THE SINGLE DUMBEST DECISION EVER MADE*
:picard:

Chris Carter needs to stay away from television forever.

The End of the Fucking World is pretty hilarious and adorable. It's like Scott Pilgrim meets... American Psycho? But British.

So do they just disregard the cliffhanger from the last run? Cause I really don't wanna watch if that's the case.

Corey Y wrote:Yeah, The Orville is TNG fanfic, without transporters and with dick jokes. It's just "what would Trek be if people had the personalities they did in regular sitcoms?". I do actually enjoy it, just because it's the closest thing to a real Trek series in a long time. It reminds me of all the offbrand Canadian sci-fi of the past 20 years, but not concerned at all about differentiating itself enough from Trek not to get sued.
I've finally seen a couple of episodes of The Orville and it didn't suck as much as I thought it would... but it falls between trying to be a parody/homage like Galaxy Quest and trying to be earnest in its delivery. I'd love to see the show that the talent behind The Orville have a stab at the new and edgy thing Discovery wants to be, minus Seth McFarlane's young-Simon-Cowell-esque face.

I have had similar thoughts about this series. However, if I'm being completely honest, I don't think it would stay on the air if they made it as a serious sci-fi show or hired the same writers/producers to make a new Trek show. It's not really distinctive or original enough to survive if you take away some kind of hook, like the fact that is ostensibly a parody. Even though it's not really a parody, so much as a straight forward TNG copy, with just the modern comedy tone interjected. The actual story beats could come out of a TNG or general sci-fi fleet style plot generator. So much of it is only worth consuming or commenting on because of the context of what it is and what the state of official Trek isn't. Which may come off weird, because I am sort of simultaneously defending and slamming it.
