Most of the instant coffee I've had has tasted like hot garbage....and I'm not even a coffee snob. Come on guys, you deserve better than that :poke:

Unpopular opinion: Equator makes some instant coffee that passed my relatively high quality standards, coming from a dude who has been a barista in a nice third-wave shop for years. I don't like the little plastic vials that it comes in and at 2.75 a cup it's not cheap, but it's pretty tasty. My dude on the inside with information says they are trying to change the packaging, then it'll be great for like hiking and stuff.

You’re right dude, I deserve better — but I’m a glutton for punishment. And free is always good.

I would deserve better if I didn't sleep in, choosing an extra 10 minutes of sleep over decent coffee was a calculated risk

Where I travel in China instant (nescafe mostly) Is all I have for days on end so you get used to it.

Intant Coffee > no Coffee

i just got a really groovy new piece of coffee apparatus. it's a "travel French press" i got for the September road trip called the Kohipress. the outer cup is insulated so the brew stays hot. the really cool thing about it is that the plunger is a truncated hollow cylinder with a single small port the water has to squeeze through to get to the grounds and screen, and a O-ring seal that forces the water into the port. thus, it makes stronger coffee than a standard French press and is also outstanding at keeping sediment out of the coffee. Joe Bob says "check it out."

This looks pretty cool. I've never tried a standard French press but the talk about getting grounds in your drink kinda turned me off from getting one. But my coffee intake is usually from a Mr. Coffee before work. I'd like to try making a "real" cup of coffee from ground beans in a fancy device sometime.

I do love my moka pot though, and ordered this to try in it: Image

I keep a french press in a box in China now so I can make real coffee (End up drinking instant quite a bit anyway because I don't always pack coffee)

The Lavazza stuff is all really good. I drank that for a long time, got it for free at work (cases of it that had recently expired)

It really is good. I usually drink Cafe Bustelo which is pretty singularly "COFFEE!!!" flavored compared to this. Still, it's strong and cheap.

I've used a french press for years, with all sorts of grinds. Only some of the finest get through, and they usually sink to the bottom after a few seconds anyway. I never notice them in my mouth.
You don't have to grind them superfine anyway. If it's a rougher grind, you just let it steep for a little longer before pressing. NBD.

I also use a french press almost every morning and I don't notice any grounds in my coffee except for very fine ones that sink to the bottom of the cup which is no more concern than the leftover chocolate at the bottom of a hot cocoa.

Those of you drinking instant coffee for convenience should try Turkish coffee instead. It's made almost the same way as instant, you just add a heaping tablespoon to a cup of boiling water, then bring it to a boil until it foams up. I just put water in my coffee cup and boil it in the microwave, add the coffee, then put it back in the microwave to boil it again until the foam rises to the top of the cup (which doesn't take long). But it's real coffee, not instant, and it's really good.

I've been drinking it for less than a week and I'm already hooked on it.

Here's the Java-Breeze web page for it, although it's sold through a lot of vendors, including Amazon.

Edit - I forgot to mention not to stir it.
