Best thing I learned today is that the PF has a built in tuner. Idk why but lately I just really dislike having a pedal tuner on my board, although not as much as I dislike clip on tuners. And my favorite guitar doesn't hold a thing very well...

I don't have much to add other than that I've been thru a lot of pedals this year and realized that I am the most content and create the best music if I just stick to my Tele, DD6, Rat, and a Fender combo

I think certain musicians- often professional - end up with the discipline to amass gear and not be overwhelmed by it. Especially if finances aren't an issue. I've found I'm not comfortable having extra gear around that isn't being used.

I've had big pedal boards and more amps than I do now. I sold a lot of stuff off and then bought back certain pedals after hearing old recordings. I ended kind of feeling overwhelmed and realized I'm not as interested in that kind of music anymore or right now.

I also wanted to get back to playing and writing without a lot of effects or gear to look at for inspiration. For me I find some simple delay, reverb, and octave stuff is what I like.

Money has also been an issue but now I'm interested in affordable synths

This seems like it could be useful on a small board. I've considered it because it does tremolo, which my Bitquest doesn't really do (but my Bitquest does so much more!) that said.. it also feels kind of blah to me. Like there's nothing particularly wild about any of these. It could be the settings used in the video, though.

Really wishing for a "mod bitquest" with a tremolo and more types of delay. Oh well.

Yeah, I've used it like this. There's a lot more to tremolo sounds than that one speed, though? At least how I want to use it

Great thread! I use small boards, as I like the immediacy of it. The sense of interaction, and exploring the possibilities with a limited amount of tools just appeal to me. I've seen plenty of musicians doing great stuff with massive amounts of gear, it just doesn't work for me personally. And while there is a slight hyperbole to Bossmanns thoughts, I do sometimes get tired of instagram clips of people with massive boards playing the simplest chord progressions to get those "elusive" #ambienttoanz. Not because having massive amounts of gear is inherently bad, but because there are indeed some individual musicians who hide behind it.

As for the more political ideas: I like noise. It's meaningful expression, to me. However, it is obviously not for everyone, and the idea is not that anyone can make whatever and it will be automatically good. Lurker said it well on the generational issue. It's a continuum. I listen to music from most perceived eras, and can relate to it. Of course, music will be stylistically different in 1958 and 1991, but that does not mean that it is categorically different. Enjoy whatever you enjoy.

Oh, and I am currently relistening to Through the Looking Glass by Midori Takada, which is an excellent minimalism record.
