thing is that i never really cared for the Pumpkins anyway
I mean I heard some songs right? I've always sort of disliked Corgan's voice but I learned to tolerate it vicariously through bands like Silversun Pickups etc. I enjoyed some songs here and there, some cool toanz, one bass player looked like my ex (hauntingly so), love Iha in A Perfect Circle... but I never made that connection to anything SP that would make them memorable to me
whereas I have had that connection with NIN so much. maybe a similar one some of you hve to your fave SP albums/tracks
and I am even getting into the NIN records I never really dug that hard
but my point i guess is that... i think they can be both very forgetable or absolutely essential to each of us. It's not a love/hate thing it's rather love/indifference I think. In some way they are very similar

With NIN it always irrationally bothered me that people thought that was like the darkest of the dark. Hierchies are retarded but you almost want to show those people things like THROBBING GRISTLE, WHITEHOUSE, SKINNY PUPPY, BRIGHTER DEATH NOW, ATRAX MORGUE etc. I don't know what I'm talking about.
I love all the projects I just mentioned though.

There was a time here in former Czechoslovakia where major music subcultures divided between people who listened to Iron Maiden and people who liked Depeche Mode (simplified for argument's sake but my mom literally told me that a number of times).
And the Depeche Mode guys were like our goths. So... Depeche Mode were at some point considered dark and edgy and shit
so i totally get your point

although i dn't have that experience with NIN fans. just like i don't know the idiot Tool fans or at least never got confronted with anyone like that

Did somebody call Trent this week to check on him? I think he's doing better now but I lost his phone number.

That article didn't bother me at all. Other than his use of "vegan restaurant patron" as a hollow and predictable attempt to belittle people, there was nothing even mildly annoying or offensive in it. I think Broken is an incredible record, and most other NIN is pretty great, even if hasn't evolved much over the years. Reznor may well be a piece of shit, but I've not yet come across proof of it. His thoughts on music are debatable, but Facebook sure is a pile of horseshit.
On the other hand, Corgan's Alex Jones interviews pretty clearly painted him as a colossal shitbag. Gish is a good record, half of Mellon Collie is a good record, and Siamese Dream and Adore are masterpieces, but holy shit is it hard to listen to any of that after listening to those interviews.

I don't think anyone actually thinks Trent is annoying. We're just worried about him.
