That's amazing. The sheer amount of work is inspiring.

Did you end up tracing the lion too? I wouldn't mind building one... ;)

D.o.S. wrote:Yeah the PLLs were around $600, iirc.

$500 for just the base unit w/ momentary switch, just north of $600 for the whole system (pll+drone+momentary)

Thanks. It's a labour of love. It has to be, or else i would have off'd myself long ago.

Yes, the Lion is traced as well. Just Google "Schumann Lion schematic", you'll find my trace. I never did a vero for it, but Alex at Tagboard just put one out this month. Personally, the Lion didn't really do it for me, so I didn't build it. It's basically a Red Llama, with some value tweaks, and the clean feed added on.

The Lion X has been the real toughy to get my hands on, and the one that really interests me. I've recently sat down and started piecing together a schematic of what the Lion X might look like. I'm just finalizing the switching right now, and I'll be hitting the breadboard in a few days. It won't be an actual Lion X schematic, but it will have all the elements of the Lion X, i.e. lowpass and bandpass filters, link/split switching, etc.

Other than that, you have the FLoop, which came in two versions; footswitched pedal, or expression pedal form. I've never seen either in the flesh, but I did see an expression pedal version on EBay about 2 years ago. From what I've heard, the experssion pedal version is UBER rare, and was only made upon request. I wrote to the owner, politely asking if would be so kind as to provide me with some gut shots, and was told in no uncertain terms to "go fuck myself".

EDIT:

After reading through this thread, a statement struck me...

I've wanted to get into building to eventually make one for myself, with a resonant filter added. :snax:
So now I'm thinking PLL + Resonator. The Frostwave Resonator circuit consists of two MS-20 type resonant filters. Run the PLL's multiplier side though the Resonators HP side, and the PLL's divider through the Resonator's LP side.

Haven't stuck anything into the breadboard yet, and it's already sounding pretty fat. :thumb:

Very elegant. Layout-wise, carbon copy of my units, just more compact.

Yeah... that would be one helleva knob monster. If I would do it, I would ditch the PLL's drone section. Afterall, the MS-20 filters can self-oscillate when the resonance is cranked. I would keep the interrupt/enable section though. If you are droning, you should be able to blip or kill it.

Knob monster or not, I want to put my hands on it.

Which ones do you make?

That one is one of my builds.

Here's a shot of two of my builds, along with a Schumann PLL, and Two Face.

Cool, I will definitely build the lion. Did you ever get someone to send you a lion X? Do we even know if there are any in the wild??
