Same^

I'd really rather play with a module/rack version of this. $1000 would be a bargain with this feature set.

Thinking $899-1200ish.

The Rackmount looks beautiful. Basically the juno prices on the Blofeld shot back up (Damn you GBP, get weaker against the dollar again, now that i've sold my ensoniq), so i'm waiting to see what the prices look like on this Behringer. It will be way more expensive than a Blofeld, but if it's anywhere near the prices rfurtkamp and others are saying, i'll probably just wait until after farm harvest work and get this. Who needs a polysynth, anyway?

I think Behringer might have shot of bringing it in under a g. They already had DSP tech, so there's no dev cost there; in the world of large scale smd production, an analog oscillator and filters costs literally pennies to make; and they're big enough that they can probably get some insane deals on manufacturing the cases/keys and whatever controllers they use for voice allocation.

I mean, they'd still completely corner the market at $1500 or $1999 for a price though. They're still a business dudes.

True, but the people who are willing to pay $1500-$2000 for a synth are likely going to steer clear of behringer like the plague, regardless of price/features. For my money, I'd sooner pick up a used Access Virus or a DSI Prophet if they're going to charge that much.

Nah, a Prophet 8 is only $1800; the peeps who can afford to drop $1500+ on an analog poly would probably go for the DSI for the pedigree and because of Behringer's reputation for making cheap shit. For $1500, you can also poly chain three Tetras for the same voice power as the Deep Mind but with the DSI perceived quality bump. Also, if you want a twelve voice Juno, you can already get for $900 by chaining three boutiques.

Yeah, I personally think that even though they could charge Two grand for this, it would be a mistake to come in higher than the DSI Prophet 08 - which is 1800 - mostly because DSI has an established reputation and quality, and the Prophets are legendary. This is an entirely new synth, from a new name in the synth game, who has (despite my opinions) a pretty mid-to-low reputation in the synth game, and they need to come on the scene and break the game. They're not Korg, they're not DSI, they're not Moog or whoever. They don't have the same amount of room for error, for better or worse. But who knows. I could be totally wrong. Arturia has at best a middling reputation of quality control and they just dropped an $1800 monosynth, which i would have said was a huge mistake, so who the fuck knows?

Edit: Haha, b0b beat me just barely to the punch.

Yea but thats without a huge keyboard and ton of other features. I don't know if I'd go with the "chain three vsts in a can together VS DeepMind12."

Good points though on people that would drop $1500 would probably go used DSI instead. I didn't really put that into play in my head.

*chain three vsts in a can together vs a DeepMind12 at a $600 savings

Depends on a 600 savings being worth it vs. an actual keyboard with (I hope to christ) good, weighted keys, FX chaining, discrete analog circuits (I refuse to believe those boutiques are anything analog) and what not.

Save $600 to not buy a Behringer product. :)

I actually like the Behr for a lot of stuff, but they do have a fairly unsavory reputation, particularly as you get more and more into specialized gear + ensuing fandom.

I actually feel like their specialized gear is where they've excelled. The X32 and the BCR2000 are two of their most reputable items. They do have an unfortunate habit of discontinuing some of their better stuff, such as that one V-Verb rack that people loved. I think, given it's being designed by the Midas team, and given Uli's seeming personal investment, it'll probably be one of their higher quality items. The quality control is not my worry. More just wondering where the price point is going to drop. I'm hoping sub-Prophet 08.

I have mixed feels about Behringer's spotty history. Like making the VTM when the big box DMM was still in (RI) production is a bad look. :|:
I do believe in 2nd chances & finding a new path, getting better minds & ideas in the dev squad. This looks like a step in the right direction. :hobbes:
