I mean, I want the Avalanche, but at the same time you can get the Source Audio Nemesis for the same price so I don't know anymore.

Probably going to sell my Ultranova for the Korg Minilogue though. Man I am in love with that thing.

I'd take a Nemesis over it any day. I love my Nemesis... but still curious to see what that plate reverb sounds like on the Avalanche.

I love digital... :erm:

That EQD delay/verb looks tasty, but I've had three EQDs and I didn't like any of them. Like ST says, Nemesis would probably be the way to go.

How come people will buy that nufuzz clone but wouldn't buy one made by the circuit creator? He did a run of them and they sound great..[it didn't sell out]..I just think it's weird because the nufuzz isn't that popular.
It's because most pedal buyers don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the FX universe. Why are people suddenly enamored with flanging and granular delay? It's because their favorite brands are producing them. It's certainly not like people are turning on satellite or Web casts and being inundated with nothing but flanged, granular-inspired music. The pedal industry really shows you the power of marketing and correctly targeting your audience. Packaging and presentation are a paramount component of commercial success.
One more point on this: typically it takes one pedal of a given type for people to notice the effect (shimmer is the easiest/most recent example of this since it went from nowhere to everywhere overnight, relatively speaking) and then manufacturers/designers tend to offer their own versions of what's trending, to steal a google search term.

You know me, I ain't stuck in the past haha...just played different fuzzes from different eras and find the ones that I like. And different takes are great to get perspective and to find what you want...but when does a circuit become abandoned and when does it become a clone of something "in production"? I love all the different takes really. Don't really care about vintage vs. modern. And I know it has been done since the beginning of music equipement in all sectors (amps, guitars, etc). I mean, they just discontinued the Disaster Transport, it is cool to clone it now (not that ever would...but it is an honest question as to when something is vintage enough to clone and not step on some one else's ability to make money from it...just a question).

All I am saying is that there is something weird about not including the dude or even mentioning his name...esp. when it wasn't popular to begin with, is that why ?(because it is an easy target or ain't no body going to say nothin'...though more likely it is just honestly bad writing for a description...I would've been fine had they said we took that CA treble fuzz sound and updated it, you know?)? If no one knows about Rosac, why bring it up? It ain't going to help you sell it.

Like DoS said, it just takes one trending thing to change that, but I guess this is more about the precedent set with the Park Fuzz. I guess also, I kinda expect EQD to be more creative than that too. I may not be the biggest fan of them, but at least they carry my interest, get me to look into their stuff sometimes, and have me really interested with a few of their pedals...just kind of expected more.

And "mojo" goes both ways...there will be a lot of people that blindly buy it for that "EQD" sound...so it goes both ways on that.

And I ain't stuck in the past trying to copy anyone's tone (did anyone famous even use the nufuzz?)...I just like playing fuzz and pick ones I like. No problem with ghost doing it in limited numbers (esp since it is a fuzzrite/nufuzz re-take) or even jerms/D*A*M whoever. Just when it becomes a pedal sold on Amazon, Jet, and other mass-retail outlets....shouldn't you at least make an effort to credit (and if they did, play it up so that we know haha).

Plus, let's be serious...this is what this is all really about:

^ Good post.

I think that there are some positive aspects of cloning (education, diminishing superstitions, greater understanding of how gear works, greater availability of circuits to people who may not be able to get ahold of an original), but none of them lie in commerce.

Not particularly into Earthquaker and their 400 odd drive pedals, but that new Gray Channel is seriously awesome and isn't a Klon/Tube Screamer. Well, awesome for the types of people like me (dungus) and the things we like (overdrive guitar).

Questions about NAMM....

is it like a comic book show where some people sell and the bigger companies just display (and direct you to their distros), no body really sells, it is up to the exhibitor to sell, or selling is discouraged?

I used to go to the San Diego Comicon every year for a decade (but that was the late 80s, early 90s mostly)...and it was kinda like the little guys were selling like crazy and the big guys were there to get you excited for the next year...(it was still very much a trade show back then...lots of wheeling and dealing...but there was a collector aspect that I know isn't at NAMM...but what I am asking is if people bring any stock to sell?).

Not that I can afford everything I would want haha...just to pick up something here or there.

I will probably start a thread with constant updates because it sounds like fun. Are there any problems with press/photos etc? Like people throw a fit over a picture?

Ummm, should I get my wife a ticket? She might hate me spending 3 days there, or is it something that one day is enough (I used to spend 3 days in comicon and still find kinda new interesting things).

Do the name badges say who you are with (like a guest of...)?

Should be a blast! I will at least take a notebook! haha. Excited to see Korg, Roland, what-akai-failed-at (or hopefully redeems themselves with), lightning bear, yamaha (SGV reissue...nah, wont happen haha), beigel, too many to list. Really excited!

I agree with parts of the sentiment LG is expressing, but it really is circumstantial for me? Also, it sucks that it comes this way, for so many reasons, but economy does matter, and many times I will try to give money to the original designer if I can, but with something like a fuzz, if another one comes out, and it is cheaper, and it has more options, that feels like a thing. These days i would rather build a drive if i need it, unless it is something super specific. but there are enough 250/screamer/muff/whatever schematics out there. I guess the grey spec 250 is OOP, so it feels like less of a thing.

That aside, I want to hear their new stuff on Bass. The night wire seems cool and I have really been wanting to build some envelope controlled combo trem/phaser combo, actually, so it seems funny that it happened. The avalanche sounds cool, but probably isn't something I will get. EQD mostly gets me pumped on their modulation and weird stuff; the depths, the orbiters, sea machine, afterneath. Not bored by fuzzes, but not excited by most of them.

On the Spires thing: what is the consumers role in that situation?
I had never heard of a nufuzz, until that demo. Having previously had great experiences with Earthquaker stuff, I though I may buy a Spires. Is it on me to research the history of a pedal and form an opinion outside of, "man, that sounds rad?"

PV: EQD are an ILF builder, (even if they've outgrown us a little), you could maybe pop into their subform and ask about bass clips?

I've never really paid attention to the Nufuzz either, what's the deal with that?
