I really never said this. Foo Fighters is an average band at the height of their creative powers. What I said is, "Everlong" is a great song, I believe my exact words were "a Nirvana-quality song." It was in the thread for
Montage of Heck. I did not bring it up. It is the only time I have ever mentioned Foo Fighters.
I don't recall if I said it on ILF, but I have said in the past, that Foo Fighters command my #Respect. They work hard (witness the recent broken leg/throne incident). I'm not a fan though.

This is just untrue. For one thing, I am nothing less than a total and complete fanboy when it comes to ILF-certified bands such as Sleep, Sunn, Boris, MBV, BJM, Electric Wizard, Kyuss, pretty much anything classified as stoner, doom, atmospheric black metal, shoegaze, dream pop, etc. So when it comes to your narrow conception of what is "fuzz" then by all means, I am devout. Hail Satan, ra ra ra... like I listen to everything O'Malley does, even total shit like æthenor, because I even like the total shit, *shrugs* he's one of the greatest geniuses out there. That's why I signed up for this forum...?
This having been said, "fuzz" (to use your word, "fuzzy") ≠ doom & shoegaze. Maybe you think Brand New is for pussies and can suck a dick six ways to Sunday. Maybe D.o.S. and all y'all agree. That's beyond cool. When I argue in favour of those bands it's because I love them so fucking much that I evangelize them as second nature. But have you ever been to a Brand New show? It;s all about fuzz. An OR120 and a DR100 both hooked up to a whole board of dirt and delay. Fact: I started using effects because of Jesse Lacey and Vince Acardi and how awesome they could make guitars sound. (My first pedal was a Tokai Chorus and I was using it for "Me vs Madonna vs Elvis.")
I remember reading this interview? With Trey Anastasio? Where he talks about how in Phish, he's always chasing his personal Holy Grail of guitar, "Machine Gun" by Hendrix. (LOL, how'd that fuckin' work out for ya, Trey.) Anyway, when I'm playing doom and drone stuff, I'm actually shooting for my personal Holy Grail, which is Brand New's live performance of "Untitled" that they close their shows with. Sometimes I just sit and try to recreate that song (poorly).
Anyway, all of my favourite examples of fuzz in music are from bands I never see discussed on ILF. Neutral Milk Hotel had some of the best fuzz on record, IMO, so good I looked up how they did it. Turns out in the studio the producer, the frontman of Apples In Stereo (another Elephant 6 band), actually got Jeff to plug his acoustic direct into a Neve and pushed it until it clipped. And that's actually how fuzz was invented by Grady Martin on his Danelectro Baritone. My favourite use of fuzz ever is on "Runaway" and "Monster" by Kanye West. Or "Electric Pow Wow" by A Tribe Called Red.
I like most music. I am not elitist and I let it all in. It all has something to say. You can see a list of my favourite bands in my sig and those are a few of the bands that I really truly love. I'm not a narc and I don't work for the government. (I'm actually sort of a libertarian?)
