Soooooo I got a kit to rehouse recently and for some reason it's not getting any sound. I literally swapped out the jacks, power supply and pots and that's it. Did not touch the board save for the power. I get bypass and LED engaged, What's interesting is when I touch two point on the board with my fingers (I know, it's like a probe right!! lol) I get crazy noises and squeals. It's wired EXACTLY like the one I did. The only difference is that I did non board mounted pots. They are 100k alpha though. Also I the trannies are all socketed. Which could be the issue, but it was working before? I'm very confused.

I'd post a picture but honestly, it wouldn't help.

So any thoughts based on the info provided?

I'm going to go over the entire board and reflow all the solder to make sure there's not a cold joint somewhere. Other than that, man, I'm fucking stumped.

I tried KaosCill8r's advice about resoldering the ground connections, I also touched up a few others that looked not quite so professional in appearance, but still no joy - in fact I think I now get less use of the sweep of the knobs to make sounds with (I have now been able to create what sounds like a fast high pitched quack autowah which is highly irritating though and appears whenever the volume coming in isn't loud enough). I also bought a magnifying glass and I can't see any solder bridges. I've added tape to the inside of the pedal to prevent the circuit board from touching any metal of the enclosure.

One thing I noticed on the Noise Floor circuit board is that there are two Grounds and also two Power inputs, but the instructions don't specify which of the two should be used (perhaps it doesn't matter?). Should I try running a ground cable to each of the ground points on the board? Or a cable from the power in to both power connections on the board? Also the instructions say to put:

"output jack ground - middle left lug on bypass switch"

But the wiring diagram shows the cable from output jack ground going into the middle RIGHT lug on the bypass switch (which is where the ground from the power goes). That's where I've put it because the middle left lug of the bypass switch is where the input jack's input connection goes and I don't think I should connect a ground to the same lug as the audio input (someone please tell me if that's wrong).

I guess it's time to give up with this pedal and maybe try to build something else? Maybe I'll try to build some sort of simple booster pedal with a minimum of parts to see if I can actually make something work and try harder things afterwards.

Switched power supply and jacks? That's ALWAYS the culprit for me

Amazingly I decided to look inside this pedal 6 months after failing to make it and see if I could salvage some parts for another fuzz... so I took it apart, and then thought about grounding problems and realised I've since built other pedals that have needed additional ground wires in odd places so I started hooking up random parts of the pedal with the DC jack ground and amazingly, if you connect Volume 1 lug to dc jack Ground you have a perfectly working Noise Floor! This isn't drawn in the build doc that comes with the kit so I'll add it here in case it ever helps anyone else trying to build it - the board does have a ground for the Volume and Gain knobs to connect to, but the instructions don't connect the board's ground with the DC jack, so the board isn't grounded (if I understand this correctly). Once you add that one wire, wow does this pedal become intense!!

Hmmm now what would it sound like with a voltage Sag knob and an Oscillation knob? I feel a modification coming on

Just bought the Bit kit that Louise had up in B/S/T -- many thanks to Jwar and his gutshot for helping me through. It's my first build and it didn't work at all at first, then I realized that I had wired the switch and power incorrectly. Now it works great, so of course I am thinking about modding it. haha Anyone know if it's possible to bypass the 33 portion of the circuit in order to get a GZ?
