I'm not sure if I want this or if I should go for a third round with the Superego.

Re: Procession
I feel like the visuals are playing a larger part than the music. If i close my eyes and just listen to it i don't feel like there's any salient musical/stylistic features at all, like it's this weird amalgam of sounds they've made up to sell the pedals that isn't actually very interesting when you remove the visuals. This is totally subjective, just the vibe i get. I think they do a great job making all of this stuff but i don't consider the whole picture as meaningful when the crux of it is just introducing an effect pedal. It makes me feel conflicted because i like going in unbiased when checking out a new pedal or whatever but this makes it harder for me to like whatever it is. It's more like watching a TV adChankgeez wrote:Almost all their music (whether played by them or some Coffee & Riffs friends) sounds pretty much the same. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. It is what it is. Some people like it. I'm kinda on the fence. Obviously, you can't please everybody. I think the pedals sound good, but I agree, the musical context is mostly a little too specific to appeal to a mass market or something like that.lordgalvar wrote:

Re: Procession
I think you've both said it well. Futhermore, I think they are marketing the culture/style they think the pedal will appeal to more than people who play pedals. Teenage Engineering does similar stuff (esp. With the new pocket things being tied to cheap monday) but I actually feel like they care about what it does and how it makes music instead of it selling me the culture/style surrounding it. With this kind of production they could have done something neat, but all I remember are skinny jeans and the dude showing off his boots turning a knob on the ditto. they're trying to sell me "see I look cool".backwardsvoyager wrote:I feel like the visuals are playing a larger part than the music. I felt the same way when DBA had Ty Segall selling reverb.
They could have made the same video with people of more diverse styles and been more successful at selling both. But avoiding different viewpoints they've made their product seem one dimentional. I know it is hokey, but the sub decay video of the anamesis delay actually showed a variety of styles within a focused demo.
I dunno, maybe I'm just a jerk. But on the other hand it is pretty easy to get me to want gear and this video didn't make me want anything cause I don't know how it sounds really.

I liked the video but didn't come away with any idea of what the pedal actually sounds like.

Re: Procession
I find with most of their videos (old blood demos, Coffee and riffs, the old artist demos from when Brady was at walrus) kind of give me an idea of feel and how the sounds a pedal makes can be used in a musical context, even if that music isn't what I'd be making with it. It gets me thinking and interested (not enough to jump on the preorder mind you) and then the eventual tech demo will give a better insight into the specifics.Uncle Grandfather wrote:I liked the video but didn't come away with any idea of what the pedal actually sounds like.
Even if you aren't part of their videos target audience you'll probably remember this video (positive or negative) because they brand themselves in a memorable way.

Oh, I know that being an LAL and MASF fanboy (as sad as I am to say it, i've moved into that territory). Like take the raptio demo with the live noise band. That was niche but i at least felt like i had a use for that pedal afterwords. I think teenage engineering is great too. I don't mind niche marketing but like UG said, who knows what it sounds like.Chankgeez wrote:No, you're not a jerk.

I will just wait for some ILF demos! Haha.

Re: Procession
I dont follow their videos, but that makes good marketing sense to put out a hype video like this one, and then a technical demo after the presale is over. I'd personally rather just watch the technical video, but they did a good job in this video showing their pedals with various instruments. I still don't know what the procession is supposed to be, but there were a lot of cool sounds in the video, I think I like the haunt

Re: Procession
Yeah I totally dig their videos, but everything they play is similar to what I play. I'm on the fence between this and a fuck. I know they're extremely different, I just so happen to have $200 and my reverb and distortion games are both not what I want.

Re: Procession
I listened to/watched the demo and I just can never tell when it's just the Procession and not paired with another pedal, you know? Like I was listening and said 'oh that sounds awesome' and saw that there was also an echorec on in the corner. I mean I get the gist of it, but how am I supposed to know the true potential of JUST that pedal, if you're trying to sell it to me?

That's just how they do it. I'd like it if they put out the art demo and technical demo at the same time, but hey.

Hey! Let's talk about serious thing. We're gonna talk about guitar, dude.

That'd be great. Have the shorter "hype" video to give people a way to tell if they might be interested in the sounds and then end with a link to the tech demo for those that arefoomanfat wrote:That's just how they do it.
