I was watching pedal demos and found this guy that makes demos but also slow ambient post rock and is on tour right now mostly at Churches... I might check him out when he comes to Austin...

Reviving from the dead because I watched the wrong video or followed the wrong people because social media/YT recs are just a wave of worship guitarists.

As a heathen from birth I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it - the only all-ages venue in my shitty city growing up was a youth church founded by a junkie so I saw a lot of Christian genre acts (punk, ska, ska-punk, punk-ska, the occasional death metal/grind act, also a Christian techno room but I never went in) but it never occurred to me that polite guitar music for megachurch services could be a genre unto itself.

I’m really having a hard time picturing what a Christian techno room is like

Bad '90s rave but you're high on Jesus instead of ecstasy, I guess. (Or you're high on both.)

I went to a Catholic high school and one of my friends convinced the school to let him put on a Techno mass. Dude wasn't even Christian, he just wanted to do it.

I'm very late for this thread and didn't read the whole thing but I thought 'worship' was used as a synonym for 'tribute'? Like doing a cover band with original songs. I first heard the term in Black Metal circles. Like, you would have a DARKTHRONE worship band. This would entail getting similar tones and playing riffs in the vein/style of DARKTHRONE. It can also be broader like 'amplifier worship' bands i.e. very loud drone bands.

So that board on page one was probably a derivative of a 'Swedish Death Metal Worship' band.

I am guilty of using the term that way having on more than one occasion wanting to start a 'synth-punk worship' band (think NERVOUS GENDER, THE UNITS, to a lesser extent VICIOUS PINK and other synth pop bands but with harsher tones). I have used it in reference to Power Electronics, "I want to do an 'ATRAX MORGUE worship' project".

So if 'worship' is not used in combination with another word, that's how I connotated it, if one were to say they play 'worship' music, I would assume it was what I derive as 'Christian Rock' but [INSERT FAITH HERE].

Could be wrong, not saying I'm right. Happy to learn.
