I build a lot of fuzz pedals and overdrives and the only one I personally use is a rat variant.
Whilst I love all the other circuits, it's just not practical for me in my own sound.
Most of the time I love the natural break up of the amp.

Funny, I recently built a klon for a customer and when I fired it up my first reaction was "What the hell is the fuss all about"?
$1500 for a 2nd hand tubescreamer HAHA!
He loved it however and that's all that matters, but I can't believe the hype behind such a thing.

I do agree about the mxr distortion + however.
You might want to try a DOD250 because they're eerily similar but the tweaks make it a little more attractive to me.

I basically can't use any pedal that isn't a Rat, the Elements, or the Bluebeard anymore. Occasionally, the DDD. Everything else seems dumb. I've always hated pedals that I can't just run at full volume settings and it sounds good. Filters are silly, and should just be phasers with how I use them. Chorus is useless when Flangers exist. Cranked SVTs make most amps seem useless.

Subtle overdrive that I can't really hear unless I turn the highs past 12 o clock
And f that

Also distortion channels
Any guitar circuit wired so each pickup has a volume/toan/phase/whatever
I'm pretty content with just volumes and on/offs, if even that

Vibrato. Haven't met one I liked. Just sound weird when I use one. Love Hendrix vibe sounds though.

Wah pedals. Everyone in the world can make those sound cool except me.
Wah pedals take practice to master. It wont happen over night, but it will happen. Mmm! Sounds like a shampoo commercial. Just fuck around with one for half an hour each practice session and keep an open mind. Wah pedal sounds need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century so play it differently to how its been played in the past. :thumb:

Yeah I don't think there's a perfect not too simple not too complex reasonably priced vibrato. It's like it's got this place I the effects that no one will make a general do most of what you want vibrato. It's always lumped in with something else or has stuff you don't need

I thought I didn't like Rats, but that was just because I didn't like my modded YDR. I loved the basic Rat, even stock though
