Yea could work. I use the 50lb weight for when I go play shows to keep my kick in place it's handy since I already had that already.

For the practice room's thick carpet, I took a trip with John to Home Depot to pick up some bass-stabilization items. I got one 3x5' low-pile, rubber backed mat. A 3x5' section of 1/4" plywood to match and a one foot section of 4x4" to add to the front of the mat to act as a bass brake. I will used the plywood to create a hard and stable platform with the mat on top. This should be enough to anchor the bass to keep it from dancing when I play it.
This Saturday was the first time playing out with the new kit. It was nice because I didn't have any PA support to speak of. With this monster bass drum, I was able to hear what the hell I was playing pretty well considering the hundreds of watts I was competing against.
Snapped another bad photo of the kit before we played.

Well at least you got all the drums in the shot!
I normally don't play with PA support. Even live, that's also leads to why I hit my bastards so hard. I have to naturally play louder to be heard.

I've always brought a cinder block on tour for my kick problems.

I tried that before and actually would still move regardless of the block, had to have the heavier weight.

I know right? Now I won't have John trying to give me photography lessons. I would have to be an expert contortionist to get this kind of unblocked shot in our practice room. lolza.

WOOT! Bass drum creep fix! Thanks to a trip to Home Depot to pick up a 4x4 block of wood, a strip of metal backing, some nuts and bolts, and some holes drilled by John, I now haz bass drum brake! That's right bass drum.. Stay right there. Just one less dumb thing to have to worry about as shows AND practice. I couldn't feel comfortable bashing the bejebus out of it because halfway through a song, my bass pedal and bass drum filed for divorce.
I also took the little rubber feet off the curved spurs and have a very cruel looking curved spike for offensive action.

Cool deal, I did that once with an older rug, worked well till the rug started ripping which lead me to get a new rug.

Well, If it happens, it was like a $20 rug. No big deal. But I think it should hold out for a while. There is a metal back plate on the bottom side of the rug so that I am not just pounding against a thin strip of rubber backed carpet. We'll see.

Oh I'm not saying it won't work for you. I'm just saying I did pretty much the exact same thing and that was my result. including the metal plate underneath. ended up getting a bit thicker stiff rug and angling my kicks with just the spikes at the end, worked far better for me.

I think this will stand up to some serious abuse. The rug is a rubber industrial mat. I expect him to get his $20 out of it and then some. Was a bitch to drill through the rubber.
