I don't have the means to record anything right now, and I'm not really sure that my description of the clean sounds would be very useful. I'm no expert, and I didn't really buy it for the cleans anyway.

I would have no problem posting some gut shots at some point, but I wouldn't know how to get in there and what to take pictures of. Don't want to fuck anything up or electrocute myself. He never said anything to me about gut shots, and honestly I don't care anyway. This isn't he Manhattan Project, it's a fucking guitar amp.

Nial has been posting a bunch of customer demos lately. Here's the first of a 5-part demo showing off the cleans:

I got mine a few weeks ago. Ultimarshall voiced. Very very happy with it. Today I took the chassis out and checked out the guts. While i will not post gut shots, I will say the amount of parts replaced was more than I was lead to believe by members here and on other forums. (re)wiring was clean, pre tubes were chinese 12ax7b. After a tube swap, I put the chinese ones back in which was surprising and replaced the one between the power tubes with a JJ ecc83s. im no amp expert, I couldnt tell you the difference between a fender or marshall tone stack or what an el84 sounds like compared to a kt88 or whatever the fuck but this is, to date, my favorite amp Ive owned. It gets really fucking loud for a 20w. Ive had the cops show up a few days ago but thats my fault for playing it dimed at 8pm in a small hawaiian community. Also me playing "demonic music"(per policeman via neighbors) didnt help any im sure. There will be more Hovercraft amps in my future. Also seeing as Im moving to Oregon in a few months...its just meant to be.

So if all these amps are modified versions of existing inexpensive tube heads, what does the Elder Giant start out as? Its much more expensive. Is it possible he actually builds that one himself?

No clue what that one starts out as but I'm curious as well. Some of the increased cost is probably due to upgraded Mercury Magnetics transformers and KT88/KT120 power sections.

I didn't look close enough at the pictures. The Elder Giant looks to be just another Jet City 100-watter with a new set of transformers for increased output. Blah. Mystery solved.

Not surprising. I find it hard to believe he's pulling 300W out of any Elder Giant tho. Even the upgraded transformers don't look beefy enough for that kinda output. Who knows...

Most wattage ratings are overblown. He would have to be running the tubes at incredibly high voltages to get that much power out of just 4 KT88s. A whole new power supply would be required. AN SVT uses a sextet to get that much output so I'd guess this head probably runs around 180-225 watts max clean power. Regardless, $1500+ for a modified JCA100 is laughable. You could get an SVT and a few killer dirt pedals for that much cash.
