I'm from Michigan and was living in Lansing, MI when Keith was in a very bad pop-punk/emo band that was tearing pages from Brand New's "Your Favorite Weapon" and Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends."

They were not good.

That being said, I was in a band that reallllllly worshipped the Blood Brothers, so who am I to judge.

Listening to Empire! Empire! to get myself more familiar before the show, and it's actually kind of awesome how clean everything is. It's a really interesting contrast to most music I listen to, cuz the progressions and melodies are the way I would expect, but it's impact is... softer but more enveloping? I don't know how to describe it, but I like.

there's a bunch of bands i loved from the 90's DIY punk/hardcore scene that were described at the time as emo that i loved. and they are so unrelated to the bullshit metalcore pretty boy bands that stole the term. it made it hard to talk about the genre. i'm thinking mostly of bands like mohinder, heroin, john henry west, cap 'n jazz, antioch arrow, angel hair, in/humanity and shit like that. down to earth hard core bands that really were at the forefront of the 90's DIY explosion that happened in the punk scene. that stuff changed my life, not just cause of the music, but because of it's impact on the underground punk scene of the time. pg 99 are kind of related and i really like them, but they were a little later on in the development of that scene it seemed to me. although they were at a time when that shit was awesome to be a part of as well. pg 99, tem eyos ki, reversal of man. all that shit was awesome too.

yeah that's pretty much the stuff I grew up on too. At the time I HATED all that post mineral midwest indie stuff too...these days I'm eh about it. I still think american football kinda ruined punk for a while haha.

I didn't get to do this, they went on way late and I had to leave mid set in order to make work on time. Balls.
But they played a new song off their upcoming full length, t'was good.

I resurrected this thread in lieu of making a new one on the exact same topic.

What are y'all listening to in this vein in 2015?

I've been digging the shit out of the new Wonder Years.
(The Greatest Generation was literally perfect so it's no small feat to follow it up so well.)

And the new Citizen.

I really like Self Defense Family. They're on Run for Cover Records so I figure that someone somewhere is describing them as emo. I'm always uncomfortable with the term emo. To me it feels like calling something hipster. Pretty much just means you don't like it.

My friend plays in citizen. He's a cool guy. I've never listened to citizen. On principal I hate this thread. I am D.o.S. To this thread. Except for Snowing. Snowing is good.

A) Your friend is awesome
B) D.o.S. will probably be D.o.S. to this thread TBH
C) You I guess what you're trying to say is... Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit? ;)

A) I learned to love the three-letter four-letter word that is "emo" long, long ago. As an adjective, noun, and probably verb.
B) If I could be on any label, I'd choose Run For Cover

All this says to me is that you don't read threads before you necrobump them.

Also can we trade you for Donny.
