MSUsousaphone wrote:So everyone has been PMing me about my thoughts on the Mobius....I figure in order to keep my inbox empty, I'll post my thoughts.....alright, fine. Everyone was asking that I ship my Mobius to Excane to let him give you his thoughts on it but fuck you people. You have to deal with my thoughts.

Overall. The big word for it is SOLID. Let's take the Quadrature and Destroyer out of the equation. You're left with nothing groundbreaking. Just downright solid. Like the Timeline, it's dark, lush, and sounds analog. All of it. The parameters allow you to tweak pretty much everything. Yes, I can get nonwarbly stuff from the chorus. I mean, with all of these parameters and with the tap tempo, you can pretty much do anything. You could put them up against any straight up effect (taking out some of the CRAZY oddball guys) and each setting on the Mobius can go up head to head against that individual pedal and just sound awesome.

I do want to throw in here, I'm not the type of guy that stacks my mods. Those people might not find this guy as useful. I'll put dirt and fuzz with my mods, but for the most part, my mods stand alone.

So yes, it replaces a ton of stuff on my board. Now the big question for me is, will it do the expression stuff I was using the Tremolessence, Faye Sing, and Xero D for? I will be experimenting with this tonight and let you homecanoes, know. I really only made it through half of the presets before three out of five of the babies started crying. But I was able to get the general overall sound of the pedal and I can tell you that each mod holds up as lush, analog, and just downright beautiful.

Now......the Quadrature. That thing is cool and different. It's just a bunch of fun for me, nothing I could utilize, but if I did dub or electronica, this thing would be AWESOME. The Boss GT10B had some things that were similar to this, but it always sounded kinda cheesy where this sounds good.

The Destroyer. Holy ****. I would pay close to $300 for a pedal like this. Maybe there are pedals out there that can do these things.....but man....I've been looking for this for a LOOOOOONG time. I just...want to go into the studio so bad, now. The signal degradation....oooomph.....I just love it. I haven't gotten to mess with it a ton, like I said, three out of five were screaming. But this one mode is going to make so many local band CDs sound so much better.

So for me, I get an amazing setting in the Destroyer, and fun guy the Quad, I've added a lush flanger and chorus I didn't have on my board, the pattern trem, auto swell, and vibes are a'ight, but, most important, I think I've been able to bump my Tremolessence, Faye Sing, Expressionator, and future purchase Xero D off my board.....total savings of almost $300.

And here I thought my GAS couldn't get any higher.

I got a couple hours to play with mine last night. I'm loving a bunch of the modes and some not so much. Most of the traditional mods sound really bad with a germanium fuzz going into it, but sound good with Si fuzzes. The germanium ones I have seem to really accent their digitalness. Keep in mind this was a first play around and I haven't been able to tweak it too much. I'm away this weekend and won't be able to play it, but I'm going on break soon and intend to upload some of my favorite destroyer settings.

It has some cool sounds but I think it looks ugly and hate the way Strymon does knobs / interfaces. Looks like shit and is confusing unless you memorize what all the knobs do in each setting. :idk:

It's def ugly tho it looks nicer in person but the interface is actually very intuitive. I'm wondering why they didn't throw a couple more programmable parameter knobs on, plenty of room there...

I'm trying to like my Mobius, but after two days of playing it's been mostly disappointment. First of all, even if Mobius stays, my Frostbite is not going anywhere. Mobius's flangers sound decent to good but still far away from Frostbite, even in "silver" mode (which I think supposed to be modelled after ADA, like Frostbite). As for phaser, I tweaked something close to Pcylocibe, which took quite a time, and only to see that Mobius doesn't interact well with Robot Devil *facepalm*. Envelope in every mode doesn't work well for me either, it sounds always open, probably because of my active bass. Filter is boring, as well as chorus. Modes I like - autoswell (it is truly the best autoswell on the market), pattern tremolo (if Mobius stays my Goatkeeper definetely goes), vintage tremolo (same as Flint and I like it), formant (I'd use it with synth pedal for leading vocal-like parts, it's really good for that). Quadrature is fun to play and something new and destroyer doubles Timeline functionality. I haven't tried plugging in expression pedal, maybe it'll change things. But so far I can't say I'm impressed.

Heheheh. They're all doing better, now. The entire bunch had strep throat.

So the ONLY negative I've found so far is that I'm unable to find a setting on the phaser where I can manually control the sweep of the phaser using an expression pedal....a la the Infanem Faye Sing. I can control the speed....like from long and slow to fast and warbly....but not the actual sweep. I contacted Strymon to see if it's hidden in the parameters somewhere. I'll post a response when I get one.

Hmm...ModFactor lets you manually sweep the phaser.

I hope the Mobius can.

I'll go the other way round as I'm looking for a Goatkeeper and don't care much for Strymon stuff... So if the Mobius stays and the Goatkeeper has got to go, I can provide him with a new home!

Grrrrrrr....even if it can't do the phaser sweep, it replaces enough other things to not move it. But I would lerv it if everyone could email Strymon about controlling the sweep in a firmware update.

Yep, a firmware update should resolve that phaser sweep issue no problemo and Strymon tends to come correct with the firmware. Eventually....
