Behnballs: Warm up time is like 30 seconds to a minute
Warwick: It was free shipping, I wasn't really even looking into a new amp at the time, just saw the deal and said
fuck it I cant let this one go, I'd say it worked out for the best.
The Mesa 400+ is suprisingly light for a tube amp, i think like 40-50 pound range.
Yeh it can go down to 2ohms, the third jack there is just another speaker jack. I dont kno
about the stereo thing honastly.

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
Considering they have it in a small rackmountable metal enclosure as opposed to an oversized wooden cab enclosure like an SVT,....I guess it's not surprising that it's not that heavy.
Fuck that sounds like it's lighter than my current SS Preamp/Poweramp/Power condtioner Loaded up 6U rack.
A 2ohm load would be perfect for me. I guess I should have looked at the Mesa Boogie website where it clearly states that it will run 500watts @ 2ohms,....and I probably should have trusted the guy that told me it would run at 2ohms as that was Mudfuzz and he knows his shit.
Oh Mesa,....why oh why did you discontinue this amp.

Hey behndy,...this seems like a great deal here.
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f127/mesa ... as-833586/
seller seems neglectful of his ad though.
I know that when I've got the money saved up I'll be perusing TB classies on a daily basis.

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
hurm. interesting. i'm still torn by the how much a toober will help me overall. it's pretty rare to play a show where it's just my cab doing to all the bass work. i'm usually mic'd or di'ed up. hurm.
HURM.
HURM.

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
One of the pillars of electric bass conversation this is. I play in a few bands and currently use all tube, solid state, and hybrid rigs. Which do I like best? I can’t really use the idea of “best” because I love them all. The context in which I use any piece of gear is dependent on my tone goals. The gear choices I make therein come from experimentation and experience. Trying shit out. I’ve tried a lot of shit out over the years. Ended up owning more shit than is probably healthy.
In comparing all tube tone to hybrid or ss, I like to reference all the physical senses. And here’s a fun spot to interject about the weight of amplifiers: Carry the load! I mean, the low end is physical, son. Always. Girls don’t dance to guitar solos.
To me, tube tone feels like it has the most mass, like there’s a great dense weight punching out the sound. Certain combinations of gear with ss tone can feel like this too, but to a lesser degree. In my experience, solid state technology produces the fastest, most articulate response from a rig and generally colors the signal less. Fuzz pedals through tubes add delightfully to that massive weight and harmonic overload, however, individual fuzz pedal characteristics can remain a touch more pronounced with ss. Good hybrid systems can strike an interesting middle ground, adding punchy harmonic content while retaining great responsiveness.
The more experience I build practicing, playing, using gear, the less meaning generalized gear “standards” carry. It’s all just tools which perform with specific traits.

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
yes and i would never discuss that in public (but YESH).
it sucks, but the only other option is for me to be broke as fuck and live in Japan in a tiny place with no gear and not able to be loud and have to ditch all the comfy work/living situation stuff i've accrued over the years.
so....... we deal. but yeah. it sucks hard.
