Re: EHX Sitar Pedal

So i started experimenting...
It buzzes pretty realistically, but there is no sympathetic noise. I've got it tuned FCCGCC I think
. I think I want to continue these experiments with different sorts of woods, to see what works well. And if that goes well, then I'll probably try picking up another dano neck to scallop out, so I can do more realistic sitar styled bends.bbbbBBBBWWWWEEEEEOOOOOOOooooowww

Re: EHX Sitar Pedal
try some reeeeeeeally light strings...they'll allow you to get a bit of microtonality by how hard you press down on the string when fretting, and also give you more sitar-esque dweeeeeeenngggg when bending and picking and more expressivity when bending. actually, a lighter string to pick on next to a drone string of a heavier gauge tuned to the same note would probably be good...like, if those two Cs are on the top 2 strings one could be a .013 and one an .011. my perverse mentality says to put the drone string on the top so you'd hit it last when strumming across, and so you wouldn't have to cross over it when playing lead lines.

Re: EHX Sitar Pedal
eh, aside from the sympathetic drones, it quite honestly sounds like any old pitch shift/harmonist effect run through mild flange.
imo the "sitar" effect works best when done analog. aka with a hunk of wood. this pedal has the same attack for every note, and the sitar is more nuanced than that.
hell its not even the guitar-trying-to-sound-like-a-guitar-sounding-like-something-else thing that i LOVE (Big Country and Adrian Belew nail it.) its just bleh. i wanted to be excited about this, but realistically a lot of people who are interested could prooobably replicate the sounds better with cheaper equipment or something they already have.

Re: EHX Sitar Pedal
repetitively, i think it's much more interesting as a general sound-fucker-upper than as a sitar simulator, though a good expression pedal could help. the thing that strikes me about it is that with an expression pedal it combines some POG-type attributes with a Whammy-esque ability to bend the fundamental with the expression pedal...thinking of it just as a signal processor rather than as a sitar box, it does a couple or three things at once at a not-entirely-unreasonable price.

Re: EHX Sitar Pedal
I converted an electric guitar into an electric sitar - worked great without sympathetic resonating strings. Gets a bit pitchy above the 6th fret. A second hand guitar - the most expensive thing was buying the stickers for it...

I have been listening to The Adrian Belew power Trio all day. He's a good man.
I play.

Hmm...maybe. That finish would have to go immediately.
And cut off most of the bizarro anti-pickguard.

that Agile electric sitar is sex. the crackle finish reminds me of guitars I used to see in Sears catalogs in the early 80's....

Re: EHX Sitar Pedal
Only way I could get down with the ravish would be if it had a bank pedal, similar to the hog, to store the sympathetic string settings and such which would add like another $100 to the price though...
Or maybe I'm stupid and there already is a way to do it on the ravish itself, but it just seems like a lot of work.
