Twangasaurus wrote:Yeah, I realised as I was posting it that I had only ever seen the dub and I started watching the second youtube clip when they made an Airplane! reference with "don't call me Shirely", pretty bizarre. Imma thinkin' that prolly wasn't in da o-ridganal. It was one of the first animes I ever watched in highschool and I guess it was pretty novel at the time. Hoping I appreciate it a bit more this time through.
Was also thinking of watching some Cardcaptor Sakura during the holidays and seeing how much I hate it now that I'm a fully grown person.
i've also been planning to rewatch Cardcaptor Sakura, that was one of my favourites as a kid.
kinda tempted to rewatch ZOIDS, i can imagine that show being fucking horrible now

Haha yeah, I still have all of New Century on VHS somewhere and two wheelie containers full of ZOIDS in the attic. Did you ever go on Phenotypes website? I spent so much damn time there when I first got into collecting, around the time Fuzors started (easily the worst series). Seems to me that the point any one of my hobbies starts to go critical (ZOIDS, gear, watches) is when I starting buying Japanese domestic only products. Why you make so much cool stuff Japan?

It isn't required - they're separate storylines, but they're all good, so there isn't really any reason not to.

Ok caught the first two on netflix... mini review: story is about the same level of interesting and quality as the standalone complex series were, animation was good, I liked the colors and feel better than a lot of stuff that has come out of late, per-Tachikoma Tachikoma-tank-bot was red and kwaii… I liked Motoko's character design better than in the standalone complex series, Batou was and irritant for the most part.. and they managed to keep that 90's cyberpunk feel, also I liked the music so I give it..

for those that can't or won't read..

Looking forward to check out the gits Arise stuff. Stand Alone Complex is one of my favourite series ever.
In other news, I finished Madoka Magica. Turned out to be a dark, trippy take on the magical girl-thing. Really cool. Watched the third movie last night, which follows the series. Has to be one of the craziest anime movies I've seen, top notch, unique animation. Not sure how I feel about the ending of the movie, but it wasn't what I expected, and that's cool.

Time to sit down and watch BECK again. Its suddenly become relevant with my current experience of starting a new band and playing the first show.
I also need to catch up with Tokyo Ghoul.
Also Gurren Lagann tonight.
YUP.

rewatching Nichijou at the moment because it's perfect. other favourites are Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Teekyuu, Danshi Kokosei no Nichijou, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Cromartie High School, Maria Holic, Acchi Kocchi, Lucky Star, Baka and Test, GTO, Nodame Cantabile, School Rumble, Humanity Has Declined... there are a lot more but those were the more worthwhile ones. I have to be missing something...
doooooood, GINTAMA.

Just finished binge-watching Steins; Gate. Oh man, this is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Awesome plot, great characters, nice animation... It was even quite moving. Got way engaged in the love story-aspect of it, which doesn't happen that often for me.

I wish it lived up to the manga though, it's seriously my favorite manga series.

Yeah, I really struggled with it until about 5 episodes in and then it just clicked. I didn't know much about the whole John Titor thing before I started but it was equal parts interesting and hilarious. I mean, evil CERN. lol. Was definitely a tear jerker (just realised that's a really strange turn of phrase, like your jacking off your tear ducts

?).

I have a really short attention span with anime now; if it doesn't grab me within the first two episodes I might be done. Video games are like this too now.
It's like..."okay, I"ll have to invest at least 12 hours into this, so it better be pretty fuckin' sweet".

I could tear jerk off to Kurisu
For me it clicked immediatly, mostly because I could relate with the protagonist and because HOLY BALLS TIME TRAVEL SO COOL SONUVABIHC.

Yeah same really, I keep dropping shows that aren't necessarily 'bad' but are too similar to something I've seen already. I mean there are a lot of common genre conventions so after a while stuff just overlaps too much to be enjoyable.

If you liked the show you should play the VN (maybe give it a while to forget the specifics from the show though). It's one of the few out there with an actual official translation and goes into a lot of detail.
Actually does anybody here do VN's? I never hear about them here. (Inb4 katawa shoujo thread)
