Jaimie Branch's Fly Or Die is playing in town tomorrow, and, sadly, I'll be missing it 'cause of work.

The last time they were in town was fly, 'tho the lineup has shifted around since.

Is Brad Mehldau the John Mayer of post-relevance jazz?

Partially Jazz related.
Finally got time to watch that Quincy Jones documentary everyone was talking about a few months back, so today I've got this stuck in my head:

Nice--Austin Powers knew :p
Q came up as a trumpeter and arranger in Dizzy and Basie's band....

The style is not necessarily to the taste of most post-modern listeners, but he did some fine work in a pure jazz idiom. Chack this album Basie did of all Q tunes after Jones had spread his wings and flown a little bit closer to fametown (def. skip the first tune if it's too slow for ya--things pick up a tonne on track 2 :D) :

Saved in my Playlist!
I must admit that until last night I didn't know he did so many years as a jazz musician and producer. Definitely wanna listen to more.
