Well balanced, not too heavy on the smoked side and actually had a similar spice to the Fade to Black #3 peppercorn porter. Also a little juniper. Very good. B+ Also had the Black Death which was a pretty standard stout, think Bell's Kalamazoo. C. Still pretty cool though.
I have some friends who own a beer & wine shop - I believe they just got some of that in stock! I love a good porter... will have to check it out.
Have you had Maudite? That's a good Porter.

Nope - I'll have to see if they can get that!

I don't think Maudite is generally considered a porter. If it is, it's unlike any other porter I've ever tasted.

It's not a porter.
They call it a strong amber-red ale

had my first flemish sour and it was pretty good. had the Breuery's tart of darkness and it was terrible. not very stouty, and way too sour got sampler of Butternut's offerings and they were reel good drinkin, especially the pale ale and the IPA DeDolle Boskeun spring beer has breached my top 5 it was so good. Caracole Nostradamos as well Fatheads is selling bottles now, which is great. Saranac lemon ginger saison was lovely as was the New Holland Four Witches Black Saison, which is ironic considering their normal saison is awful

Hmmm, maybe I was thinking of a different Unibroue beer? Or maybe not even a Unibroue... fuck this shitty memory.
I'm thinking of a Porter that is almost peppery. Any ideas what beer I'm trying to think of?

Not Unibroue.
Not very peppery, but maybe Fuller's London Porter (which is delicious).
This one is delicious, but not sure it's available outside of Quebec.

Yeah, London Porter's a classic & that Double Porter seems like it might be pretty tasty.

Yeah I think you could be thinking of this years Left Hand's Fade to Black.
As far as Maudite, it's a Belgium strong ale. Delicious. We've had just about every Unibroue tap on at my bar.

I don't really know why, but I think they (Unibroue) were better before they were bought by Sleeman than Saporo. Something has changed... or my taste has changed. Maudite use to be one of my favorite beer.

I hear ya. I feel the yeast has a little more of that standard Belgium bubblegummy flavor rather than the complexity it used to have. Still great brews though.

Did you know Fat Tire is illegal in Michigan? Well, I'm in Nevada, so
