Yeah I'm kind of sure this is one of the best/worst things ever.

It's weird to me that multiple posters have strong negative feelings for Tame Impala. To me, they're one of those bands that's going to rate 4.5 - 7.5 (from 1-10) for most people. You either like them, or just feel meh about them. It's baffling to me, though, when people put them closer to 1 or 10. They're not the Kinks or the Stones, but they're not Nickelback or Creed either, so I find it extremely puzzling that they would incite rage in anyone.

They're so meh, yet so adored by people who would die if you told them they are a dullard and their favourite band was boring earpiss.

I really liked them in high school, especially their earlier stuff.
Easy to cover, pumps up a crowd in the right context.

I always listened to Innerspeaker when I went bike riding, too.

Kneejerk reaction: I see no reason to listen to them when I could listen to Spacemen 3.

Reflective reaction: I think echorec is pretty right on, but I think the "awfulness" is an extension of what MechaG is picking up and putting down -- if they didn't have the existential typification of the people who post on the Reddit guitar pedal section as adamant fans (If that dude doesn't have a Reddit account or whatever I'll make you a delicious breakfast), they'd just be a passable/forgettable psych rock band.

Maybe that's their niche? Baby's First Psych Band?

I mean, you can pretty much use that description for the entire Perth psych scene, right?
